It is a coastline of dramatic views, with the highest point on the east coast of England found at Boulby, near Staithes, where the cliffs are a mighty 200 metres high. Photographic villages and tranquil bays are dotted along the coast.
Away from the beach, there is plenty to keep all ages entertained. Take the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, which is said to be the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, or explore the myriad of goth and curio shops.
