A great base from which to enjoy a coastal holiday, with a beach close by and many seaside attractions to enjoy.

Farm Cottage is a quaint, semi-detached, converted farm house which is situated near the coast of Margate in Kent. Comfortably sleeping 4 guests, this holiday property, next to the owners’ home, has been renovated to a good standard. Guests can enjoy access to a good-sized garden, an open-plan living/dining room and a well-equipped kitchen, as well as a small chalk cave which is characteristic of the area and which the owners’ are happy to show guests around. Built in 1652, Farm Cottage was originally part of a working dairy farm, and throughout the property guests will see plenty of character and quirky layouts. A short stroll from the property will take guests to the coast of Margate, and local attractions include the famous Turner Gallery, Margate Old Town, Shell Grotto and local village shops. Take a boat trip and spot seals on the sandbanks, or cycle the Viking Coastal Trail, one of the most attractive leisure cycle routes in Kent, covering 27 miles. A short drive will take you to Broadstairs, home to Viking Bay with several fantastic walks, or visit Ramsgate Royal Harbour. Broadstairs Folk Week takes place on the first weekend in August every year and it is only a 20-minute bus ride from the property. Also, don’t miss out on a trip to the historic city of Canterbury, with its dominating city walls and incredible cathedral. Farm Cottage delivers a great all season, coastal destination, offering lots of heritage and culture to discover and explore. Beach ½ mile. Shop ¼ mile, pub 200 yards, restaurant 1 mile.

    I was expecting the Farmhouse and cottage to be further outside of the town and not in the middle of a housing estate. The stairs are a bit dodgy and care is needed coming down them. The cottage was clean enough although we had to move the fridge out due to an issue with a mouse and found a few items behind it that had been there for over a year. There was a thick layer of dust on top of the fridge (where the microwave sat) so if the owners employ cleaners for changeovers I would certainly address this. Apart from that, we had a very nice week!

I’m always keen to ensure that Farm Cottage offers the best possible experience to our guests and to improve on our offer to customers. I can see that there was an issue about the areas around the fridge and microwave. I’ve spoken to our cleaners and asked them to ensure that these areas are thoroughly checked and cleaned in future. Farm Cottage is 1 of 3 buildings that are part of West Northdown Farmhouse. The oldest sections of the building date from the 17th century and when it was originally built it was surrounded by fields. In the early 20th century the surrounding land was gradually sold off to develop houses with most development taking place in the 1930’s. Our immediate surrounding area is known locally as Palm Bay Estate, or, The Avenues, and is characterised by large, detached houses built in a 1930’s style, on wide, tree lined avenues. We are 5 minutes walk to the coastline and the nearest beach. West Northdown Farmhouse is a Grade II listed property. My husband and I renovated Farm Cottage when we bought the property in 2013. We modernised all of the internal fixtures and fittings, but we had to remain within conservation guidelines during this process and this limited what we could do with the internal structure of Farm Cottage. Throughout the renovation of Farm Cottage, we worked really hard to ensure that we retain the character and charm of the property, drawing out the original features, heritage and quirkiness of the property, whilst also ensuring that Farm Cottage is able to accommodate contemporary lifestyles. The stairs are steep and we recognise that the cottage isn’t going to be able to respond to everyone requirements. That said, the stairs do have a hand rail and there is a light above the stairs which ensures that this area is well lit and as easy as possible to navigate. Our ‘Welcome’ notes in the cottage also draw attention to the stairs and encourage our visitors to be extra vigilant. I’ve checked the written information and photographs on all the marketing channels and I’m satisfied that they are all accurate.

    Fabulous accommodation for our family of 4. Would definitely stay here again. Everything we could have needed was provided and to a high standard. Great location for exploring the local area. Superb beaches, spoilt for choice for places to eat and drink. Lots of local history/castles/shops/places of interest.

    Really beautiful cottage ,felt at home straight away. The bed was so comfortable slept very well. Hope to return in the near future.

    Farm cottage is a lovely old building with a lovely garden and everything you could need inside. The location is also great for some lovely beaches and exploring the east Kent coast and towns. Highly recommend this cottage

    the Cottage was very Special, equipped with everything you could wish for. All was tiny and clean and soooo cosy - we would stay here again anytime :o) Nice beaches within Walking distance, Shops, Supermarket - the Location is in a quite area. The garden was beautiful, fenced - so we didn´t have to worry about our dog.
