Set in the seaside town of Whitby, this terraced cottage is minutes away from shops, bars and restaurants.

Set in the heart of this seaside town, this charming terraced holiday cottage, which has been fully redecorated for the 2018 season, was built in the style of a fisherman’s cottage, is minutes away from cobbled streets lined with antique curio shops, cafe bars and restaurants. Guests booking Endeavour Cottage can arrange for a pre-ordered food hamper to be available on their arrival (at cost) from the local deli, ensuring your holiday gets off to a great start, with a taste of the local cuisine. There are also museums, art galleries, designer clothes and homeware shops and a cliff-top golf course to enjoy, as well as ghost walks, galleries, museums and a stunning harbour to stroll around. Climb the 199 steps to Whitby’s famous abbey, the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and admire the spectacular views over the town and harbour. With many festivals held in the town throughout the year, there really is something for everyone. The delights of the picturesque village of Robin Hood’s Bay, and the seaside resorts of Scarborough and Staithes are easily accessed. Have stayed in the cottage twice now and think it's starting to get a bit tired. It needs a bit of overhaul. The pictures of furniture on the website do not match what's in there. Back door security is poor and drafty. The outside area is dirty and very tired and not a place you would like to sit. The shower in the top floor bathroom is broke and needs replacing. On a plus point the location can not be beat. Maintenance and a bit of a cash investment need to make it a top cottage. New sofa and chairs needed. The adventure cottage next door is on another level look there.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I was disappointed to read this review – we have worked hard over the past 12 months making fairly substantial improvements to the property (maintaining standards is an on-going job. Which we take seriously.) Just 4 weeks before this guest’s stay the twin and bunk room were professionally redecorated along with the external woodwork. Other upgrades have been undertaken in the last 12-18 months, installing a new frost-free fridge freezer, Neff oven and new dishwasher. The hall, stairs and landing have been professionally re-decorated and re-carpeted. An additional kitchen cupboard was fitted to provide extra storage space and new crockery. In January this year a new boiler was installed. In the same month the lounge/kitchen/dining area and cloakroom/wc were repainted, new curtains were purchased, and the dining table was replaced. In March this year the two en-suite bathroom floors were re-tiled. I acknowledge the photo on the website does not show the sofa that is currently in the cottage. Unfortunately, the arm of the previous sofa was broken so I replaced it with a Marks and Spencer leather sofa as a short-term measure while I await delivery of a new suite. The website photo will be updated when the new permanent sofa is delivered in a few weeks’ time along with a new smart TV. Regarding the shower as the guest is aware the shower worked, but I accept the spring in the riser rail had lost its tension. It has now been replaced. I had not been made aware of this. With regards to the outside space. I was at the cottage the previous week and weeded the whole area. At the very worst the chairs may not have been stacked neatly. I work hard to create an attractive seating area with plants in tubs, they may have looked a little forlorn after the summer heatwave. I have found in the past that guests very much appreciate the fact we have an upper and lower patio, much larger than either of our neighbours. Both of these areas are big enough to accommodate all 6 potential guests. They also appreciate the storage shed with a selection of buckets and spades, fishing nets, crabbing kits, body board and a barbecue for them to use during their stay. We have now repainted the gates and fencing outside and redecorated the double bedroom and ensuite. A new sofa and arm chair have been purchased for the lounge and will be delivered shortly. In 11 years no other guests have commented about the ‘drafty’ door. And the style of lock was stipulated by the Fire Service who inspected the cottage and conducted a health and safety check and insisted we use a lock which does not require a key to exit. I am pleased you enjoyed the location and that it cannot be beaten. The feedback from the vast majority of our guests agree and would happily return.

Lovely cottage in a great central location in Whitby. Very well equipped and with 4 bathrooms was perfect for a family of 5 with 3 teenagers. Very handy having a parking spot very close by. Would very likely stay here again. Great value for money.

This is a well equipped house in the centre of Whitby with a very useful, if somewhat tight, parking space. The house warm and welcoming with beds all made up. There is plenty of space for 2 little families with a set of bunk beds in one room. Lots of bathrooms so no queuing. We would definitely book this house again.
