Southrop itself is wonderfully peaceful, characterised by honey-coloured stone cottages, a traditional village green and historic St Peter’s Church. Stroll through the village to The Swan for a drink or dinner, then wander home beneath wonderfully dark country skies.
Nearby Lechlade-on-Thames is perfect for a leisurely day out. Browse its independent shops and antiques, stop for lunch or follow the river towards historic Halfpenny Bridge and St John’s Lock. This is the highest navigable stretch of the Thames, and exploring by boat offers a lovely alternative perspective of the surrounding countryside. Walkers can also join the Thames Path for beautiful riverside rambles through meadows and peaceful rural landscapes.
