This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Right in the centre of St Ives, this property is a great base for a couple wishing to explore the area.

This cosy ground floor holiday cottage is perfect for couples to enjoy all year round, in the heart of the picturesque town of St Ives and just a short stroll from the harbour, shops, galleries and beaches. It is located in an area known as ‘Downalong’ on the approach to the peninsula called The Island, with its granite cottages and labyrinth of lanes and alleys. Step out of the door and within a few yards, guests can enjoy the St Ives scene with its cosmopolitan mix of cafés and restaurants, many dotted along the waterfront. Famous for its light and Mediterranean Sea colour, St Ives has been a magnet for artists over the years and boasts numerous art galleries, including the Tate Modern and Barbara Hepworth Museum. There is a popular September festival in the town, with music, exhibitions, workshops, theatre and poetry. Christmas and New Year festivities include lights and street parties. Take the scenic coastal train from St Ives to St Erth passing the wide estuary at Hayle and many glorious beaches on route. The area is perfect for exploring the rugged North Cornish Coast, popular with surfers or the gateway to West Cornwall, including Land’s End, Sennen Beach, Marazion with St Michael’s Mount perched on its rocky island, or the busy harbour and town of Penzance. Take the scenic coastal drive from St Ives to Pendeen over heather-clad moorland, passing the tiny village of Zennor, famous for its mermaid tales. The area has something for everyone, wild life and bird watchers will love the marshes at Marazion, and Hayle attracts bird watchers from around the world. Walkers enjoy the area with easy access to the South West Coastal path. Cyclists are spoiled for choice, as the area has a number of excellent cycle trails, bridal ways and cycle hire. Explore glorious gardens, including the sub-tropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan. Beach 500 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with wooden floor. 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. 32" Freeview TV. DVD. Stereo/CD. iPod dock. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Public car park, 200 yards. No smoking.

Great location and owners very welcoming, great for short break as would need slightly more space if longer. Great for dogs as short walk to area's were you can take dog to in early mornings and evenings. Very close to car park which was really convenient.

I went away with my partner and two dogs for a winter break to celebrate her birthday. Driftwood is a lovely bolthole. Very close to some beautiful beaches and only a few minutes from the harbour and some lovely pubs. The property is all on one level with a house above it but accessed from behind. The owners have made this a characterful cosy place to stay. Nice proportioned kitchen with everything you need a relaxing lounge, modern bathroom and bedroom. There was internet and a smart tv. Plenty of books and dvds. The location is quite perfect. Car park at the end of the street. All of the old part of St Ives is on your doorstep. Makes you feel part of the place.

Great location , good for a couple to get away , the cottage is single storey and you can sometimes hear people above , but not very often. The room is slightly dark , but it's very cosy and a fantastic location. Great value and highly recommend

We had a lovely first visit to St Ives. Driftwood is in a perfect location. Try to decide which restaurants you would like to visit prior to stay as you will find that many will already be fully booked! We booked secure parking for the week prior to our holiday and thank goodness we did!

The cottage was lovely in a great location. Things that let it down: 1. Leaking gutter from previous feedback this has been a problem since Jan 18. Keeps you awake at night if raining. 2. Cottage ready for a deep clean - floors filthy nothing to clean them with other than an old steam mop with no pads. Tiles want a good scrub in bathroom. Replace shower curtain as it smells. Wash all kitchen equipment as greasy 3. Needs de cluttering- too many books and nic nacs that take up valuable space in a tiny property. Clear shelf in kitchen and bedrooms. No drawer space In bedroom shelves could be used. No space in kitchen cuboards or draws 4. Summer weight duvet needed as it’s extemely warm 5. Foisty smell in bedroom from gas meter

Great location for restaurants and beaches . Parking is impossible nearby unless you arrive before 6am and are prepared to wait . Very small cottage and cute decoration .Shower was difficult as either boiling or freezing.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for leaving feedback for us - good or bad we really appreciate this as we do our best to act upon this to try to improve our guest experience. Unfortunately, we have no control over parking. We would love to be able to offer a parking space but this is not possible - we can advise re options if we are contacted prior to guests arriving and help wherever we can but parking is an issue beyond our control. Yes, we are a small cottage but our location is the very best. Thank you for your comment re our decoration - we have had guests add to our cottage beam, which is just lovely. We have recently stayed to test the shower and had no problems. We did not reply until we had tried it out to ensure we gave an accurate reply so we are at a loss as to the issues you experienced - however as it’s a combi boiler we wondered if someone was using the sink while you showered. This would influence the hot/cold ratio.

Had another excellent stay at Driftwood in March. Will probably book up again for December. Our only comment would be that it does become extremely expensive to hire in the middle of the year. However that is entrepreneurship for you...
