The cottage was excellent and well equipped. we had a few concerns over the continuous interference by the cottage owner who often turned up twice a day to check the hot tub, generally when it is most likely that people would be in it. The cottage is also surrounded by CCTV cameras so we were concerned that the owner may have been watching us. The cottage was great but if you are concerned about privacy please beware. The hot tub temperature was also set at 30C presumably to save electricity, so it was a luke warm tub rather than hot tub.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We take the health & safety of all our guests very seriously. Driftwood & it's systems are designed to minimise risks to occupants. Hot Tubs carry specific Infection risks as specified by HSE “The control of legionella and other infectious agents in spa-pool systems” HSG282. We operate the Hot Tub to HSE Best Practice Protocols. The necessary checks & water sampling are always carried out with both the utmost discretion and the minimum of disruption to guests & never when the Hot Tub is occupied – unless requested by the party leader. The Hot Tub temperature is set to a maximum of 38.9 degrees which is verified daily – human body temperature averages 37 degrees – HSE recommended maximum Hot Tub temperature is 40 degrees. Police Scotland report that Southerness is a relatively low crime area. However given Driftwood’s isolation from the rest of the village, a Professional CCTV system has been installed for everyone’s peace of mind. The cameras cover Driftwood’s external entrances & windows, gates & periphery fences. Images can be viewed on the Samsung TV situated in the Lounge. Guests who have any concerns or questions are encouraged to contact the owners. Previous guests have commented positively that the CCTV system allowed them to safely monitor their children & pets in Driftwood’s garden.

The Cottage and view is amazing - The owners Linda and Paul are very nice. The furniture, e.g.: electric relax chair with footrests, are just great. Powerful shower in the bathroom. Everything was really clean, modern and cozy, comfortable beds as well - we can highly recommend the Driftwood Cottage. We had breathtaking sunsets - every evening different !

We LOVED Driftwood. The location right on the beach was stunning and the hot tub view is amazing. The house was really comfortable and really well equipped. The owners went above and beyond what would be expected from holiday proprietors. Not only did we get a welcome basket including bread, wine, coffee & tea but also managed to turn up with a dog comb as our dog decided to start moulting after we had arrived and I was unprepared!! The only reason for less than 10 for the local amenities is that there aren't masses of choice and pretty much everything (except walking on the gorgeous beach) requires getting in the car and travelling - but then it is Scotland!

We spent a wonderful and relaxing week at Driftwood, Paul and Linda are wonderful hosts there if you need them but never intrusive. Driftwood had everything you could need for a fantastic holiday, and the views from nearly every window should lift anyone's spirits. I would recommend driftwood to anyone that wanted 5 star accommodation and wonderful scenery. Thanks to Paul and Linda for all their hard work in making Driftwood a truly special place.

Great accommodation. Location mainly the beach disappointing.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner- Driftwood is located on the shoreline of the Solway Firth adjacent to The Upper Solway Flats and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest SSSI and Special Protection Area SPA. The immediate beach features sand and rock pools. Mershead Sands which stretch some 4 miles lie some 5 minutes gentle stroll along the uninhabited and undeveloped coast to the west of Driftwood. There is a RSPB Reserve just inland of Mersehead Sands - visited by some 20,000 plus Barnacle Geese during the Winter.

Best experience ever of a self-catering holiday from most aspects, eg situation of house directly onto the shoreline with sensational views of mountains and coastline and Lake District and Isle of Man, inspirational decor etc, size, nice welcome from owners (plus goodies), good for dog, good base for visiting area (new to us). Hot tub was a wonderful extra. Not only a quiet location, it's in a quietish tourist area with the attractions that brings.
