Chartwell, which is home to the late Winston Churchill and his paintings; Batemans, where Rudyard Kipling grew up; and Ightham Mote, a fine example of a moated 14th-century manor house. Explore castles including Bodiam, vineyards and sample some very fine wines; gardens including the masterpiece at Sissinghurst created by Vita Sackville West and Harold Nicholson.
