Tucked amongst lush Highland greenery beneath the magnificent Beinn a’ Bheithir mountains in Duror Da Dhruim is a striking newly built, architect-designed holiday home offering contemporary comfort in an unforgettable setting. Reached along a single-track road, this peaceful retreat feels wonderfully secluded while being perfectly positioned for exploring Glencoe, Appin, Oban and Fort William.
The heart of the house is the spacious open-plan living area. The contemporary kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with all modern conveniences, while the adjoining dining area has plenty of room for everyone to gather over leisurely meals. After a day exploring the mountains or cycling, settle into the comfortable lounge beside the wood-burning stove and admire the spectacular views towards the surrounding peaks. French doors from the kitchen, dining area and lounge open onto the terrace and the sheltered sitooterie, creating a lovely spot for morning coffee, alfresco dining or simply enjoying the Highland scenery.
Also on the ground floor are two king-size bedrooms, both with their own en-suite shower room, a separate toilet and a useful utility room in the hallway. Upstairs, a further double bedroom and twin bedroom are complemented by a family bathroom, making Da Dhruim ideal for families and groups of friends.
Adventure begins almost at the doorstep. Below the house runs the Oban-to-Fort William cycle route, with plenty of tempting refreshment stops along the way. Around a mile away, beautiful Cuil Bay is perfect for a picnic, wild swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding, while nearby Loch Linnhe provides yet more opportunities to enjoy the water.
Walkers are particularly well catered for. Rising above the cottage are Sgorr Dhearg and Sgorr Dhonuill, the two Munro summits of Beinn a’ Bheithir, while legendary Glencoe offers an extraordinary choice of mountain walks. Visit the Glencoe Visitor Centre to discover the area’s landscape, wildlife and fascinating history.
Head south to Oban, the Gateway to the Isles, for seafood, shops, McCaig’s Tower, boat trips and a visit to Oban Distillery. Northwards lie Fort William, Ben Nevis, Ben Nevis Distillery, Glen Nevis and the spectacular Road to the Isles towards Mallaig. From Fort William, enjoy one of Scotland’s most memorable railway journeys aboard The Jacobite steam train, famous for crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct and its association with the Harry Potter films; advance booking is essential.
Other wonderful days out include Castle Stalker, Port Appin, Ballachulish, Glenfinnan Monument, Neptune’s Staircase and trips across to the islands of Lismore, Mull and Iona.
If you are looking for a quieter day there are two locations nearby, both of which have indoor swimming pools and serve food all day.
Da Dhruim is a superb base for experiencing the very best of Scotland’s dramatic west coast for one and all of the family.
