We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is comfortable, warm and has a very personal touch, with a lot of character.

Cottage had everything we needed plenty of movies , books etc for the children , small televisions in all the bedrooms , and well equipped and comfortable ,but looking a little tired , kitchen floor covering was lifting for example , and dishwasher in need of replacement with bottom tray jamming which caused some frustration. Very clean on arrival and in a lovely location in the quiet village backing onto the woods which was great for the children and dog. A large garden which again great for children , but not dog proof if like ours your dog has a tendency to go off hunting. A short drive to Nairn so fine for shopping and walks on the beach. A 30 minute drive to Roseisle where there is a stables and riding in the forest and beach. About an hours drive to Aviemore where we went skiing

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are delighted to hear that you found everything you could need in our “well equipped comfortable cottage” and recognised the “very clean presentation and lovely location” and spotted the extra touches around the house and how ideal a base it is for so many activities. The dishwasher works extremely well but after your comment I have replaced a couple of the runners that were causing your frustration with the bottom drawer, so it’s now sorted. The floor was flooded by a previous guest which caused the lining to lift and I did get a floorer in to stick it back down but you are right it doesn`t seem to have corrected it and I am now in negotiation with a fresh floorer “ Hillhouse flooring” to come in and provide a replacement. The garden has one boundary that is dependent on adequate scrub that I will ask my gardener to shore up to keep the dog in. We are really disappointed at such a poor score of 5 out of 10 when your comments overall seem very favourable and your relatively minor points that detract from the overall picture of my former family home.

On the day we arrived the fire was ready to be lit but when we turned on central heating it was not working, contacted the caretaker, unavailable so contacted owner, unfortunately he was unavailable as he was in Ireland ,so a cold first night, The next day we contacted the owner, he was very apologetic, contacted a plumber instantly and he arrived within one hour and fixed the problem, the rest of the holiday in the cottage went as planned and was very comfortable with everything we needed, the day before we were due to leave the owner turned up with a bottle of wine and was so nice and apologetic again, in all a very nice cottage and would stay there again if we go back to that area, just an unfortunate start to the holiday which was beyond any body's control

We arrived on the 25th November at 16:30 to a cold, unaired, unlit property. A fire had been made but not lit and the inadequate central heating system wasn't on as this was on a timer due to come on at 18:30. Not a great start when it's snowing and -1 outside. The welcome pack instructions said to expect a call to check if everything was okay. We didn't receive any call from the housekeeper or owner so were left assuming no one was bothered if we had any concerns or even had arrived. It would have been nice to get a call to check the time of arrival and warm the property. The property itself was dated and grubby with collections of dust and cobwebs in places, the coffee provided had got damp and gone hard and the sugar had the previous person's coffee granules still in it so clearly hadn't been changed. The double bed was like sleeping on concrete and there were some stains on the spare duvets which were needed as the place was so cold. The kitchen appliances were old, the dishwasher barely worked with a makeshift lower basket reused from another appliance that was dangerous to use. The door tray in the fridge had been melted at some point so didn't fit properly and kept falling off when anything was put in it and the freezer was housed in the garage which meant a trip outside each time anything was required. The heating system is not adequate for the size of the property, as even with it set to be constantly on the building was cold to point of both of us wearing coats and hats. There is no heating in the study at all. The whole place is in desperate need of modernisation and I'm so glad we didn't bring our children and grandchild as the children's double room never got warm to the point you could see your breath in the air. Even some areas of the gardens were unkempt and overgrown and not because it was winter. I can only assume that the 5 ratings that are listed on Revoo are from family and friends as we certainly wouldn't recommend it nor have we when asked. However, there some positives. The location was lovely and quiet with private parking and good walking access to nearby woods. With only a short drive from Nairn and the beach. It was also a good base to explore the Black Isles, Speyside and Loch Ness.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Whenever a guest posts comments, we always take them very seriously and I will address the concerns raised in turn. However, firstly, what is disappointing is when a guest posts comments after the event when I request in the welcome pack that any concerns should be immediately mentioned so that my caretaker can address them there and then. I`m sorry if the guest was expecting a call from us but I don`t believe the welcome pack gives an expectation of this and as it is so variable when guests arrive, our assumption is that the welcome pack explains things and that guests would call our caretaker if they had any questions. She is local, living in Nairn and if required would happily call in. Also the booking conditions do advise guests should contact the owner a few days prior to arrival to arrange an arrival time. The welcome pack describes how the heating is set to come on at pre-set times but that customers can override the times should they wish. The pre-set heating start time is 16.30 not 18.30 so on this occasion a guest must have changed the setting. It is unfortunate if they didn`t reset things and I will ask the caretaker to double check the set times at changeovers and try to ensure that when weather is cold that the house has had a boost for arrivals. Naturally no-one would leave a lit fire in an unoccupied house awaiting guests as it would pose an incredible fire risk and any known arrival times cannot be guaranteed due to traffic etc., and arrival time is any time after 3/4pm and there are some guests who unfortunately do not let us know of a time so this is an unrealistic expectation. The heating of the house at times of extreme cold does benefit from a lit fire which of course is part of the fun of the cottage and something that guests often seek out on booking the property. As a back up to heating system failure, the caretaker can access heaters in the attic which could be used in emergencies or if someone was particularly susceptible to the cold. If only the guest had asked, they could have been brought down. Our caretaker has always been very particular to keep a very tidy and clean house, I can only apologise if on this occasion she forgot to check the coffee and sugar and of course this acts as a reminder for her in future. With regards to decoration, this cottage has had more licks of paint than my own current property and furniture and decor are always a matter of taste. There is a very clear web tour of the rooms in the property and so guests can clearly see the décor prior to booking and most guests feel the cottage has an extremely homely feel so I would refute the idea that it needs modernisation- it is a country cottage not a city flat and it receives an annual inspection that checks and scores furniture etc. The white goods and halogen hob in the kitchen are all recent acquisitions apart from the fully functioning dishwasher which is next on the list for replacement but the comment that the tray to place plates etc. in is from a different model is incorrect. The fridge door will be checked by the caretaker following this comment and if defective replaced. Mattresses are a subjective matter and therefore unfortunately cannot please everyone, we have tried to choose one that will suit the majority of our guests and we have found them to be very comfortable. Even at this time of the year our gardener still tries to do as much as he can to keep things reasonably shipshape. As regards comments that it must have been family and friends that posted 10/10 reviews, that is not correct, all guests that submit reviews are asked to state (as this guest has done) whether they are a couple, a group of friends or a family so this does not mean they are my friends or family. I have repeat guests and I`m sure they wouldn`t return if things were not to their taste and the majority of our guests seem to have a lovely stay as can be evidenced from our previous reviews.
