Description

Down a farm track, this barn conversion has an open fire and games room, perfect for large family groups.

In lovely surroundings of peaceful open countryside, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this award-winning, detached barn conversion, with its own small garden, is built around a cobbled courtyard and reached by a ¾-mile long farm track. Ingenious design has retained the barn’s unique character, while creating very spacious and well-equipped accommodation, ideal for holidays at any time of year. Set away from the farmyard, it is surrounded by farmland where sheep and cows quietly graze. There are wonderful walks straight from the door, with the fells and mighty Ingleborough in sight. At Ingleton (6 miles), there are miles of paths with steps and bridges along a wooded valley where waterfalls abound, and nearby White Scar Caves display classic features of limestone caverns. The very pretty market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is just 4 miles away, offering shops, inns, restaurants and a golf course.
Cowder Barn is ideally located between two National Parks – the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District – both within easy touring distance and offering some of England’s most dramatic scenery. Rushing rivers flow down the main dales of Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale, surrounded by the high peaks of the Pennines, and high waterfalls, such as Hardraw Force near Hawes, make spectacular sights. Everywhere grey-stone villages blend effortlessly into an unspoilt landscape. The Lakes offer a land of exciting contrasts – high mountains and deep lakes in an ever-changing array of colours. Fishing and water sports can be enjoyed, or for the less energetic, sheepdog trials, Cumberland wrestling and fell races make good spectator sports. The coast is easily accessible, with the wide sandy beach at Morecambe only 16 miles away. Shops 4 miles, pub 1 mile.

Sitting-room with open fire and French door to garden. Large kitchen with dining area and wood-burning stove. Large walk-in larder. Utility with separate toilet. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Three further bedrooms, each with five steps up to threshold; two twin bedrooms and one large bunk bedroom with additional pair of bunk beds (for +2). Large south-facing sun room with full-length glazed doors to enclosed cobbled courtyard. Two bathrooms, each with over-bath shower and toilet. First floor: Games room with table tennis, pool table, darts and wood-burning stove.

Open fire and wood-burning stoves – initial fuel included, thereafter available at cost. Electricity, oil central heating, bed linen and Wi-Fi included. High chair. TV. DVD. CD. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. Payphone. Small garden. Paved courtyard with furniture. Barbecue. Ample parking. No smoking. Games room with table tennis, pool table and darts. Ground floor facilities. Please note: Couples and family bookings only.

Wow! Wow! And wow again! Cowder Barn is such a delightful cottage. The building itself is an amazing design with so much space and great facilities. The kitchen/diner has everything you could need, the bedrooms are really comfortable, the bathrooms are modern and clean, the lounge is large and relaxing, and the upstairs games room is just the perfect cherry on the top! There is plenty of parking space outside and there are footpaths nearby, so you can go for a short/long walk through the countryside without having to drive anywhere. There is also a great gastro pub within 15 mins walking distance too. The location of the cottage is only about 25 mins drive from Lake Windamere and also a short drive from the Yorkshire Dales. Not forgetting the city of Lancaster and Morcombe Bay, which are both only 30 mins away. In summary, one of the best cottages I have ever stayed in. Definitely 10 stars!!!! I look forward to visiting again in the future.

The location of Cowdber is stunning and with a large group, is spacious and well-equipped to cope with the numbers. The en-suite room is lovely, the other bedrooms a little strangely furnished and dated but everything is clean in terms of bedding, bathrooms etc. The sitting room is deliciously cosy on a cold evening for snuggling up. The games room is very disappointing with the table tennis table broken, the pool table a little tatty and there is a bed in there, it is very strange. All that said we had a good stay and avoided the upstairs as we were out walking most of the time. The location is simply stunning and for that reason alone, we would go back for a group holiday just needs a little sprucing up!

A very spacious property with plenty of amenities, a very quiet location only downside was track leading to property in need of levelling. Definetly look to stay here again in the near future

Beautiful barn, warm and cosy. Easily accommodated 2 families, and a large dog, with ample rooms so that we all still had our own space. The children loved the games room!

We loved our stay, the cottage is huge the photos do not do it justice. A very well equipped place, only complaint would be the track to the property.

Lovely barn, secluded location. Unbeleivably spacious, comfy beds, very warm and homely. Needs a little updating but extremely good value for money.
