Description

Down a farm track, this barn conversion has an open fire and games room, perfect for large family groups.

In lovely surroundings of peaceful open countryside, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this award-winning, detached barn conversion, with its own small garden, is built around a cobbled courtyard and reached by a ¾-mile long farm track. Ingenious design has retained the barn’s unique character, while creating very spacious and well-equipped accommodation, ideal for holidays at any time of year. Set away from the farmyard, it is surrounded by farmland where sheep and cows quietly graze. There are wonderful walks straight from the door, with the fells and mighty Ingleborough in sight. At Ingleton (6 miles), there are miles of paths with steps and bridges along a wooded valley where waterfalls abound, and nearby White Scar Caves display classic features of limestone caverns. The very pretty market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is just 4 miles away, offering shops, inns, restaurants and a golf course.
Cowder Barn is ideally located between two National Parks – the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District – both within easy touring distance and offering some of England’s most dramatic scenery. Rushing rivers flow down the main dales of Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale, surrounded by the high peaks of the Pennines, and high waterfalls, such as Hardraw Force near Hawes, make spectacular sights. Everywhere grey-stone villages blend effortlessly into an unspoilt landscape. The Lakes offer a land of exciting contrasts – high mountains and deep lakes in an ever-changing array of colours. Fishing and water sports can be enjoyed, or for the less energetic, sheepdog trials, Cumberland wrestling and fell races make good spectator sports. The coast is easily accessible, with the wide sandy beach at Morecambe only 16 miles away. Shops 4 miles, pub 1 mile.

Sitting-room with open fire and French door to garden. Large kitchen with dining area and wood-burning stove. Large walk-in larder. Utility with separate toilet. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Three further bedrooms, each with five steps up to threshold; two twin bedrooms and one large bunk bedroom with additional pair of bunk beds (for +2). Large south-facing sun room with full-length glazed doors to enclosed cobbled courtyard. Two bathrooms, each with over-bath shower and toilet. First floor: Games room with table tennis, pool table, darts and wood-burning stove.

Open fire and wood-burning stoves – initial fuel included, thereafter available at cost. Electricity, oil central heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. High chair. TV. DVD. CD. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. Small garden. Paved courtyard with furniture. Barbecue. Ample parking. No smoking. Games room with table tennis, pool table and darts. Ground floor facilities. Please note: Couples and family bookings only.

What a lovely place, beautiful location and everything we needed for a group of 10. Excellent value for money. The games room was a god send with the bad weather. The only gripes (and these are very small - not really worth mentioning) Could use a bigger oven for so many people and the heating took forever to heat such a big place even with the fires. We loved it so much, we are looking to book it in the summer, I cant wait to sit in the courtyard with the bbq and and a glass of wine and look out over the hillside, just bliss ;-)

We had a fantastic time, and have booked to go back again in March, lots of room for big groups and kids loved the games room.

Great celebration property, our family group was celebrating my birthday. It was lovely having so much space and we had a lot of fun in the games room. I think a little updating is necessary, the carpets and outside paintwork were in need of attention. But once the fires were light and the heating was on it was very cosy.

Excellent place to stay. Cottage was a lot bigger than I expected. Plenty of room for our party of 10. Would definately recommend and we would definately return. Games room a real hit with the children. Only negatives seem to be the same as most other reviews 1)The track leading to the cottage is in desperate need of repair, some scrapes under the car worrying incase of damage 2) Could do with a double oven as 1 oven not big enough when feeding 10. 3) games in games room need attention. Nothing that has spoilt our time though. Thankyou for our stay.

Cottage was lovely and big but the track to the cottage was awful. Kitchen was big and was a good family dining area however it does need an upgrade. The board games and info files could do with an update as well... The one thing that was disappointing was the games room... The bed up there was broken and mattress disgusting but it hadn't been moved out. The settees were really old and used and made us not want to sit up there.. But the pool table etc were in working condition so that was good.. The location is peaceful and ideal for big groups. It just needs an update throughout. There were also a lot of flies.

We had a lovely family holiday, with lots of space for the little ones to enjoy. The beds were very comfy. The large kitchen was ideal for us all to eat together. The views were amazing.

Wow! Wow! And wow again! Cowder Barn is such a delightful cottage. The building itself is an amazing design with so much space and great facilities. The kitchen/diner has everything you could need, the bedrooms are really comfortable, the bathrooms are modern and clean, the lounge is large and relaxing, and the upstairs games room is just the perfect cherry on the top! There is plenty of parking space outside and there are footpaths nearby, so you can go for a short/long walk through the countryside without having to drive anywhere. There is also a great gastro pub within 15 mins walking distance too. The location of the cottage is only about 25 mins drive from Lake Windamere and also a short drive from the Yorkshire Dales. Not forgetting the city of Lancaster and Morcombe Bay, which are both only 30 mins away. In summary, one of the best cottages I have ever stayed in. Definitely 10 stars!!!! I look forward to visiting again in the future.

The location of Cowdber is stunning and with a large group, is spacious and well-equipped to cope with the numbers. The en-suite room is lovely, the other bedrooms a little strangely furnished and dated but everything is clean in terms of bedding, bathrooms etc. The sitting room is deliciously cosy on a cold evening for snuggling up. The games room is very disappointing with the table tennis table broken, the pool table a little tatty and there is a bed in there, it is very strange. All that said we had a good stay and avoided the upstairs as we were out walking most of the time. The location is simply stunning and for that reason alone, we would go back for a group holiday just needs a little sprucing up!
