Situated on a working sheep farm with glorious open countryside, along with being set in the heart of the Welsh Cob Country, Cob Cottage is the perfect setting for a totally relaxing ‘escape from it all’ holiday. The cottage itself, which is attached to the owner’s farmhouse, has been totally refurbished to a very high standard with every modern convenience at hand. All this overlooks the fabulous countryside and River Teify and Buzzards and Red Kites are often seen soaring high above the valley or resting in trees and on other vantage points around the cottage. The owners of Godre Garth farm breed and show prize winning flocks such as Suffolks, North Country Cheviots and Beltex sheep.
The comfortable accommodation offers a good-sized porch for coats, shoes and boots and a large fully-equipped kitchen with cooker, fridge, dishwasher, microwave/grill and washing machine. The dining area has a table and chairs for 6/7 and opens out through French doors to a good sized conservatory with seating and coffee table, and has the added benefit of fantastic open views to the rolling countryside overlooking the River Teify. The cosy living room with electric wood-burner offers large sofas, one being a sofa bed giving the flexibility for additional sleeping. On the first floor there are two bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and en-suite facilities of a p-shaped bath with a large circular static shower head over and an additional hand held shower, toilet, wash basin, heated towel rails and a shaver point. Bedroom 2 offers zip and link twin beds which are made up to super kingsize, along with an additional single bed, again with the added benefit of en-suite facilities of a corner shower with a large circular static shower head over and an additional hand held shower, toilet, wash basin, heated towel rails and a shaver point. Externally the cottage has a decked area which leads to a patio with a garden table and chairs, potted plants in troughs, a BBQ and a washing line. There is off-road parking for up to three cars and there is secure storage for bicycles in the owners’ barn. The owners are flexible on the changeover days and also kindly offer the facility of evening meals and full breakfasts by arrangement. Please book this directly with the owner. If you are travelling by train the owners offer a collection service.
Llanddewi Brefi is just 1½ miles from the cottage; a village on the banks of the River Brefi in Ceredigion, West Wales, it derives the second part of its name from a local legend involving two oxen. The oxen were hauling stone up a steep hill when one of them collapsed and died. The other bellowed nine times, and because its bellow was so loud, the place became known as Llanddewi Brefi (brefi meaning below). Llanddewi Brefi might ring a bell with some people, as it appeared as the hometown of Little Britain character Daffyd Thomas, better known as “the only gay in the village”. The village offers a shop and two pubs and the village parish church. There is so much for everyone to see; Lake Llynbrianne, Aberystwyth Castle, The Tregaron Red Kite Centre is just 3 miles away, along with The Welsh Gold Centre again in Tregaron and Llanerchaeron. Other local activities include fishing, mountain biking, walking, golf, horse riding, bird watching, stick making and The Dolaucothi Gold Mines. Or if you prefer something a little more sedate, there is a footpath right on the door step of Cob Cottage with take you on a trail around Llandewi Brefi centre. Also the University town of Lampeter is just 8 miles from the cottage. A holiday or short break at Cob Cottage is a must! Beach 16 miles. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant 3 miles.
