The very comfortable cottage, with its own secure, gated, off-road parking, is located in a quiet residential area on the western edge of Wells but is only a few minutes easy walk from pubs, restaurants and the top of Staithe Street, the pedestrianised street leading down to the centre of Wells quayside. It comprises two double bedrooms, one with en suite shower room, one twin bedded room, main bathroom and open plan kitchen, leading through to open plan sitting room, leading through to open plan dining room / conservatory. It was spotlessly clean and welcoming (especially the welcoming bottle of wine and big box of assorted biscuits). Alongside the dining room / conservatory is a sheltered patio with table and chairs, where it is great to sit out in the late afternoon, watching the house martins and other birds performing above – the birds around Wells are very friendly to each other; one afternoon, a sparrow hawk flew close overhead, giving a sparrow a lift home in its claws. We did not have any meals in the cottage but, if you are cooking for yourself, it appeared to be fully equipped many times over, as it was for everything else. The star of the show is the full size football table, which kept all the children (one aged 8, one aged 10 and two aged 68) amused for hours. Excellent.

Bright and pleasant bungalow, well-located for shops, cafes, harbour and beach. Parking for 2 small cars. Lots of nice touches e.g. baby and toddler equipment, well-stocked library and DVD collection, table football. Cottage was surprisingly chilly and damp for a mild June - we had to put the heating on in the mornings. Some of the kitchen equipment needs updating. Not much storage in bedrooms. Lots of helpful pre-arrival info from owners which was appreciated, but no response when we contacted them during our stay about a couple of minor issues.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Coastal Hideout. We are sorry that you were unable to contact us during your stay. Unfortunately, your e-mail went into the spam box and we didn’t pick it up until after your departure - I’m sure we could have resolved any problems quickly if you had called or text. We have never received any reports previously of the property feeling damp although it could have felt that way if you were drying wet clothes on the radiators during your stay. We note your high score for location and hope that you enjoyed most aspects of your holiday.

A very comfortable base. Quiet but within walking distance of the quayside and plenty of places to eat even though we went out of season. We had heavy snow during the week but the cottage was warm and cosy.
