Booked for its location close to the Southern Upland Way which with the kind assistance of the owners providing transfers, I was able to complete this National Trail with the minimum of effort. The views from the property are stunning and apart from the occasional passing vehicle, there was complete peace and a dark sky for night time views!

Really clean and comfortable. Although there isn't much around the views are amazing and we love the peace and quiet, an everchanging landscape where you can chill out and relax. We definitely will be booking again.

Cosy cottage in a scenic location. Ideal for a relaxing break away from it all. Dalry is the nearest village, about 3 miles away it has 1 shop which closes around 5pm. There are lovely walks In the area. Cleughbrae was very well equipped and we all had a fantastic week. Unfortunately, we can’t return as the owner has now decided not to accept bookings for families with dogs.

A beautifully designed, kept & loved cottage. A great hideaway with glorious farm & mountain views that can't be beat. Amazing award winning pub food with restaurant quality in the nearest village. The boys went clay pigeon & rifle shooting, we drove to the lighthouse on Scotland's most southern point & we all enjoyed the walks in the local Galloway Park. Well worth a visit. Pre-warning: this area is rural & the Local post office with small shop shuts at 5/6pm weekdays so you may want to bring your first meal with you if you don't fancy the nearest takeaway or supermarket 16 miles away in Castle Douglas. Do drive there at some point though for the haggis & chips!

The location is the appeal of this cottage, although Castle Douglas for provisions etc is 30 mins away (if you stick to the speed limits!) We wanted a quite retreat for the week and didn’t intend to use the cottage as a base for long days out and about, because of this we expected a comfortable refuge.Sadly for us this was not the case. Whilst this may not be the same for everyone we found the beds uncomfortable and the settee the same. The ingrained grease stains on the sofa and chairs from the many heads that have rested on them, is unappealing. The cottage sleeps 6 however there are not 6 comfy chairs, the footstool and small highback wooden chairs would have to be used to make up the numbers. The floors are laminated which is fine but the loose rugs on them isn’t and could cause a real accident to anyone, this may seem petty until someone slips. If you use the oven, grill or toaster be prepared for the alarm to go off in the kitchen every time! In short, for location it’s lovely, the cottage is lovely, the home comforts could be so much better and for us that was a real shame.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We would like to assure our guests that the Cottage is cleaned and prepared to a high standard before every arrival and we spend a lot of time, money and hard work ensuring we provide a clean, comfortable and cosy holiday home for our guests; this is supported by the many positive reviews we have previously received.

A lovely cottage, very comfortable and very well equipped, stunning views of the eastern Galloway hills. The location is very rural and peaceful with abundant wildlife. Great cycling in the area, either on quiet roads or on the extensive forest park tracks, check out the leaflets in the cottage. Thanks to Louise the owner who was very helpful.

It was everything we hoped it would be. From the start of the holiday until the last day we enjoyed every minute. Cleughbrae Cottage was a haven to return to after exploring the area. Louise was so helpful & friendly & her cake was delicious also the scotch pancakes - yum! It was great to have the 'boot room' for use for the dogs to dry off before coming into the rest of the house - only wish we had that at home!! We loved watching the lambs & the calves & even a hare -wow! Red Ktes flying overhead just added to our enjoyment! We cannot wait to return. Thanks Louise.
