Castlehill Upper Villa is situated in the heart of Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula. This modernised upper villa is located in a grand sandstone building occupying the first and second floors. The first floor has an amazing open plan living space which is 115 square metres, with large floor to ceiling windows. This room accommodates a kitchen area, dining and lounge with space for everyone and more to spare! The main bathroom is also located on the first floor and then on the second floor, are the four bedrooms. The rooms and corridor have sloping ceilings. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and en-suite facilities. There is a bright room with a double bed, a twin bedded room and a further room with 1 double and 1 single bed. You are within easy walking distance of all amenities with a variety of bars and restaurant to choose from. It is only a gentle stroll down to the harbour and the seafront. There are plenty local shops and a couple of larger food retails. There is a swimming pool with leisure facilities and small charming cinema all again, easily reached on foot.

So this is a hard review to write as Villa has so much potential and beautifully in a great little town but the lack of attention to detail has sadly deflated the score. Firstly I must point out that this is on old building with only the first and second floor in use with the let, the ground floor is currently being renovated to what looks like another holiday let, my advice would be to get this let right first before starting on another. On entering the building at the left hand side entrance it smelt old and damp, the original floor was in place but not looked after and bits broken and missing. The open plan kitchen, dining, lounge and pool table area is impressive in size, however what detracted was the damp marks on the walls above and below the windows, rusted bars on main big window, the place mats at the table not wiped clean, the rugs full of bits, the kitchen counter not clean. The first floor bathroom is a really good size but the same again, damp patches on walls, a random chair in the room, mould round the bath and shower screen. And the en-suite the same, mould around the bottom of the shower and damp patches all around the walls. It’s just these things that detracts from the overall building. The gardens are kept immaculate and very spacious.

An amazing quirky holiday cottage because it used to be a bank. The spacious,open plan living was great for 2 families together. The cottage had everything we needed and was a great base for the many amazing walks we had. We had a lovely meal in the local pub, a great take away from the Indian and found the shops were really close to the cottage. There are 3 flights of stairs to the first floor and a further 2 to get upstairs. On the second floor there are four well equipped spacious bedrooms although one of the beds was very firm! How could it be improved?? Maybe a mirror in the twin room and WiFi!
