What we love

Description

Dating from the 18th century, this charming cottage has stunning original arched windows, and was originally the cart shed for the stables.

Set in 4 acres of woodland and close to the quaint village of Failford, this detached 18th-century cottage has stunning original arched windows and is a short walk away from the River Ayr Way. It provides a tranquil base from which to explore the beauty of Ayrshire and south west Scotland. Ayrshire offers unspoilt scenery and a varying coastline with the Ayrshire Coastal Path (a long distance walking route winding 100 miles along one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles) being easily accessed. Inland, there are gardens and castles to visit, as well as riding, racing, golf and country parks. Day trips to Ireland can be taken from Stranraer, and both Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day out. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Living room with wood-burning stove, tiled floor and kitchen area. Double bedroom with door to patio. Step to twin bedroom with feature stone wall and fully tiled en-suite shower room and toilet. Bathroom with shower over Jacuzzi bath and toilet.

Even with high winds and horizontal rain there was enough for a couple to do although I think children of any age may be stretched in finding the right thing to engage their imagination. Bird and animal life was on the door step and we spent much time sitting in leather seatees watching activities in the garden.

What a great cottage, fantastic location, super clean and very well equipped. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and a great welcome. The cottage is homely and super cosy, especially with the log fire! Cannot recommend this cottage highly enough!

Owner introduced himself and was on hand for any queries. Plenty firewood for log burner. Nice welcome pack. Lovely views from large windows. We thought that a handrail in the shower over the bath would have been a good idea.

The Cart Shed is a modern yet characterful place to stay to explore Ayrshire and beyond - but you'll hardly want to tear yourself away! It's a stunning converted stable block which is homely, spotlessly clean and has everything you need. We were greeted by a wonderful and unexpected welcome pack including fizz in the fridge, butter, bread, milk, orange juice, bacon, Scottish biscuits and eggs from the owners' hens. The living area has a log burner, comfy sofas and a large TV and there are TVs in both bedrooms too. And the jacuzzi bath is a lovely addition to the main bathroom to make your stay even more relaxing. The grounds and garden were kept beautifully and we loved watching a wonderful collection of garden birds visiting the feeders. These included great spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches and blue tits. This property is a fabulous find and deserves five stars all the way!

Lovely cottage, clean and well kept. A little overlooked, no full length mirror and no wardrobes, just a couple of small hanging rails. A bit over priced but a light packing family would love it.
