Description

Dating from the 18th century, this charming cottage has stunning original arched windows, and was originally the cart shed for the stables.

Set in 4 acres of woodland and close to the quaint village of Failford, this detached 18th-century cottage has stunning original arched windows and is a short walk away from the River Ayr Way. It provides a tranquil base from which to explore the beauty of Ayrshire and south west Scotland. Inland, there are gardens and castles to visit, as well as riding, racing, golf and country parks. Day trips to Ireland can be taken from Stranraer, and both Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day out. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

The Cart Shed is a modern yet characterful place to stay to explore Ayrshire and beyond - but you'll hardly want to tear yourself away! It's a stunning converted stable block which is homely, spotlessly clean and has everything you need. We were greeted by a wonderful and unexpected welcome pack including fizz in the fridge, butter, bread, milk, orange juice, bacon, Scottish biscuits and eggs from the owners' hens. The living area has a log burner, comfy sofas and a large TV and there are TVs in both bedrooms too. And the jacuzzi bath is a lovely addition to the main bathroom to make your stay even more relaxing. The grounds and garden were kept beautifully and we loved watching a wonderful collection of garden birds visiting the feeders. These included great spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches and blue tits. This property is a fabulous find and deserves five stars all the way!

Lovely cottage, clean and well kept. A little overlooked, no full length mirror and no wardrobes, just a couple of small hanging rails. A bit over priced but a light packing family would love it.

Excellent base for visiting friends and family. We were not expecting such a great welcome pack! Best welcome pack by far. The place was clean and most things we required were there. we did not expect the wildlife in the garden on the first morning. We thought the owners were slowly releasing the animals/birds for us to enjoy. First we heard the woodpecker and then the lovely birds on the bird feeder, then a squirrel and then the hens came round and then there were ducks. (they seem to love the feeders). I didn't realise how peaceful it was watching birds in the garden. It was lovely the daffodils were out in the garden. The kids enjoyed playing with their dogs. Our dog loved watching out of the windows. despite the 8 hour journey time I usually don't sleep well anywhere for the first few nights. But we all slept amazingly well. The cart shed has been thought out really well with solar powered and spring water. The kids tried out the jacuzzi bath a few times loved it!!! Alex was very helpful in suggesting places for dogs and kids to visit. Dumfries grounds, Culzean country park, Ayr beach. All great!!!

The Cart Shed is of a very high standard, tastefully furnished and a very comfortable base for sightseeing and walking. Our hosts were welcoming and ensured that everything was to our satisfaction, giving guidance on local amenities. Directions were clear and we had no difficulties in locating our accommodation. We brought our dogs with us and were able to enjoy lots of walks. This is one of the most relaxing breaks that we have ever had.
