Enjoy a family holiday in this spacious property, with its own indoor swimming pool and large garden which children will love!

Featuring its own indoor heated swimming pool, this spacious attractive house with surrounding garden, stands in a hamlet on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Well equipped and comfortable, it boasts spacious rooms and all modern comforts, making a superb family holiday base.

Just 10 miles away to the east lies the wonderful North Yorkshire coastline. Filey has a wide sandy beach which shelves gently into the sea, whilst the resort of Scarborough, popular with families, offers an excellent choice of restaurants and a theatre. Scarborough is also home to the biggest, fastest and funniest waterpark in the UK, Alpamare Waterpark, ideal for serious adrenaline junkies and is fun for all the family with space to relax and unwind. Magnificent Flamborough Head with its bird sanctuary is 18 miles. The historic sea port of Whitby (25 miles), where the legendary Captain Cook learned his trade, has a beautiful new marina. The old town is a jumble of narrow streets, with ancient houses and little craft shops, and above the town, high on a headland, are the jagged ruins of Whitby Abbey, still an impressive sight. The Spital Craft Centre in Staxton, 2 miles, serves up a lovely Sunday carvery, and features Victorian streets with hairdressers, a beauty shop, village store, deli bakery and a tearoom. It’s open everyday and there is free parking. Almost opposite the craft centre is an award winning fish restaurant which also provides takeaways. Inland is the market town of Malton, where a museum houses finds from the Roman camp which once stood here. Five miles to the west, Castle Howard, one of England’s grandest houses, is well worth a visit. Surrounded by magnificent parkland, it contains fine furniture and paintings, as well as Britain’s largest private collection of dress from the 17th-century to the present day. The attractive town of Pickering at the southern foot of the moors, is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, which travels across Heartbeat country. The city of York can be reached in an hour or so, with its superb museums, excellent shops and splendid minster. Flamingo Land and Ayton Castle are also nearby. There is an excellent golf course at Ganton (2 miles) and first-class riding stables at Snainton (7 miles). Good pubs and restaurants can be found in the surrounding villages and there is a farm shop in Potter Brompton and another one just 1 mile away. Village shop 1 mile, supermarket 3 miles.

This was our second visit to Brompton Lodge so we knew what to expect but it was nice to see that some of our comments from our first visit had been taken on board and that there is now patio furniture for sitting out in warm weather available and there was a variety of leaflets on local attractions and amenities displayed. It would have been nice to have some basic cleaning solutions available (e.g. cooker hob cleaner, kitchen surface cleaner, bleach etc.) but as the notice advised that the property had a septic tank we were unsure of what products to buy which would have been suitable so didn't feel that we left the accommodation in the manner we would have liked, although there was a mop and vacuum available (as was an iron and ironing board). We all enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

Spent a long weekend here with my sister and our girl cousins, having a catch up. Brompton Lodge was a fantastic venue and the indoor pool was the icing on the cake. Spacious, comfortable and with everything you will need for an unforgettable stay. We could even take my sister's very well behaved cockapoo. We were delighted with the welcome pack too. Such a lovely touch. With the farm cafe / shop on the corner and the coast just up the road, it's ideally located too. Hopefully we'll get to stay again sometime.

More cottagey than modern but comfortable and plenty of equipment and facilities. Swimming pool very good and was much enjoyed. Owners responded to our queries immediately and were pleasant to deal with. Lovely bakers and tearoom at the end of the road and they also serve a good breakfast. Excellent location for exploring North Yorkshire and the Wolds, lots of places to visit.

A spacious house with large garden and excellent swimming pool - which was our main reason for renting here. We appreciated the scones, cream, milk and crisps left for our arrival. Unfortunately there were issues : the fumes from the machine/pump/generator room were incessant, we had to keep external doors open and twice the CO monitor went off ; the noise went on during the night ; we had an all-day power cut which the owner didn't inform us about (although the neighbours knew about it) ; the internet was disconnected one day because the bill hadn't been paid (this was rectified after we contacted the owner) ; only the edge of the garden was mown, the main part was left until the Tuesday evening ; on 3 or 4 occasions when phoning the owner about these matters, there was no answer and no way of leaving a voice message.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Concerning the electricity board repairing the overhead lines we would have said something had we been aware of this. However as we don’t live in the village we were not informed there was any necessary work being carried out as only about a half a dozen houses in the village were affected. I assured the guest that it was OK to keep using the swimming pool. We do answer our phone when we are not out at work and we did speak to the guest several times during his stay. We fixed his issue with the Wi-Fi as soon as we were aware of the problem and on Wednesday 8th August, I rang him and asked if everything at the cottage was OK. He replied that he had no other issues apart from the ‘power cut’. He said that despite being on holiday he uses the Wi-Fi to contact friends all the time and found it hard to manage for a few hours without it. However, three weeks after he left he raised an issue about fumes and the carbon monoxide monitor that bleeped twice. Perhaps he pressed the button to check it was working. Carbon monoxide does not smell so if it only bleeped there was no reason to panic. If the guest had any concerns then why did he not raise this issue with the Agency or us so any issues could be investigated? If carbon monoxide is present, I am told the alarm will continually bleep until the problem is sorted. When the button is pressed to test it is working and the battery is OK it only gives a bleep. The guest never tried to inform us at the time of an issue that could have been serious for both his family and the other guests who have since been in the house. Thankfully having re-checked the monitor there are no issues at this time but it does need fixing higher on the wall so children do not play with it. We have an engineer comes to service the boiler at least twice a year and have the printouts he leaves when he has finished. If he finds any problems, he deals with them straight away. We employ a gardener to come in to cut the lawns at their convenience but due to the hot weather very little trimming has been necessary this year.

We had a wonderful holiday in this cottage and especially enjoyed the pool every day . The weather was very warm but it was not too hot or stuffy even at night. The cottage was prepared to a high standard and was very clean. The decor is in character with the cottage and the large garden was nicely kept. We would recommend the cottage for families, there is ample parking for several cars so a group could easily share this large cottage.

The house was adequate in size but we found the decor dated, the garden was very spacious and tidy. The indoor pool was of a good size and appeared clean however after a couple of days we found that the bottom of the inflatables where covered in slime which contradicts the statement that the pool is treated and hoovered between each guests stay. Regarding you’re information advising guests to shower before swimming, we agree but purely from an hygiene point of view, thishas nothing to do with legionnaires disease, Legionaires disease is spread through dirty shower heads and cold water storage tanks if not cleaned on a regular basis.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; You state that the pool was fine for the first few days which only goes to prove that it was cleaned before your arrival, (I can assure you that it was thoroughly cleaned). By your own admission your issue only arose after your party started using the pool several days later. You didn’t advise us at the time that you saw slime during your stay so can only presume it wasn’t giving you any major problems. We ask that visitors use the shower before entering the swimming pool to remove any cream they may have applied like face cream, sun cream, fake tan lotion, night face cream, hair shampoo or conditioner etc., as any of these can cause slime. When we checked the pool on the day you left it was slime free so if there was any slime it had gone by the time you left. We are therefore satisfied the pool equipment is working correctly and is fit for purpose. We use chlorine in our pool as recommended by our pool engineers. Chlorine serves three essential purposes in swimming pool water: it sanitizes (kills pathogens including bacteria, viruses, amoeba), it kills or prevents algae, and it oxidizes swimmer wastes (skin oils, lotions, etc). Chlorine free systems have to replace all 3 functions, to perform adequately. With regards to Legionnaires, as owners we are provided with a Health and Safety leaflet from Wyndham which includes detailed information on managing legionella in hot and cold water systems. With regard to the house décor we update rooms regularly every year in keeping with the country cottage feel for the house.

Very spacious house with great addition of swimming pool. Plenty of space upstairs and downstairs. Great outdoor space too but with a number of children in our party the difficulty was that the garden is not secure. Really lovely welcome basket which included a locally made cake that was delicious!
