Just 10 miles away to the east lies the wonderful North Yorkshire coastline. Filey has a wide sandy beach which shelves gently into the sea, whilst the resort of Scarborough, popular with families, offers an excellent choice of restaurants and a theatre. Scarborough is also home to the biggest, fastest and funniest waterpark in the UK, Alpamare Waterpark, ideal for serious adrenaline junkies and is fun for all the family with space to relax and unwind. Magnificent Flamborough Head with its bird sanctuary is 18 miles. The historic sea port of Whitby (25 miles), where the legendary Captain Cook learned his trade, has a beautiful new marina. The old town is a jumble of narrow streets, with ancient houses and little craft shops, and above the town, high on a headland, are the jagged ruins of Whitby Abbey, still an impressive sight. The Spital Craft Centre in Staxton, 2 miles, serves up a lovely Sunday carvery, and features Victorian streets with hairdressers, a beauty shop, village store, deli bakery and a tearoom. It’s open everyday and there is free parking. Almost opposite the craft centre is an award winning fish restaurant which also provides takeaways. Inland is the market town of Malton, where a museum houses finds from the Roman camp which once stood here. Five miles to the west, Castle Howard, one of England’s grandest houses, is well worth a visit. Surrounded by magnificent parkland, it contains fine furniture and paintings, as well as Britain’s largest private collection of dress from the 17th-century to the present day. The attractive town of Pickering at the southern foot of the moors, is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, which travels across Heartbeat country. The city of York can be reached in an hour or so, with its superb museums, excellent shops and splendid minster. Flamingo Land and Ayton Castle are also nearby. There is an excellent golf course at Ganton (2 miles) and first-class riding stables at Snainton (7 miles). Good pubs and restaurants can be found in the surrounding villages and there is a farm shop in Potter Brompton and another one just 1 mile away. Village shop 1 mile, supermarket 3 miles.

Wonderful time and would book again as the location 15 mins from Scarborough beach is great and the property is in a very quiet location but just off the main A64, very handy for York. Also plenty to see around the local area such as Bridlington, Filey and much, much more.

Very well equipped cosy home from home, more room than enough, excellent dining with amazing table and great to have sky tv package. Welcome package greatly appreciated to. Loved having a swimming pool to end the day. Short drives to Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington but no local amenities, on the plus side everything you need is a short drive away including a great Fish and Chip shop in Seamer called Papa’s (tried a couple but this was by far the best). Only down side was the noise and smell from the locked room in the utility. Highly recommend and would love to return.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; The noise and smells from the boiler room are no different from any public swimming pool. The boiler needs to run otherwise the water in the pool would be cold, likewise a continuous flow of chemicals into the pool is necessary to prevent problems. The boiler is on a time clock and does not run continuously especially at night. The boiler room has to be kept locked for Health and Safety reasons to prevent guests coming into direct contact with pool chemicals. I am sorry all the local amenities were not what this guest and family were looking for but there are plenty of amenities in the area, however she did find some fish and chips shops locally but there are many others in the local area which she missed.

This was our second visit to Brompton Lodge so we knew what to expect but it was nice to see that some of our comments from our first visit had been taken on board and that there is now patio furniture for sitting out in warm weather available and there was a variety of leaflets on local attractions and amenities displayed. It would have been nice to have some basic cleaning solutions available (e.g. cooker hob cleaner, kitchen surface cleaner, bleach etc.) but as the notice advised that the property had a septic tank we were unsure of what products to buy which would have been suitable so didn't feel that we left the accommodation in the manner we would have liked, although there was a mop and vacuum available (as was an iron and ironing board). We all enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Just to clarify the notice that was put in the property by Cottages.com representative regarding the use of cleaning products due to having a septic tank. There is no problem with using any cleaning products that can be purchased at any supermarket providing they are used in the correct measures. Female hygiene products, contraceptives and baby wipes etc. are not acceptable as misuse causes blockages.

Spent a long weekend here with my sister and our girl cousins, having a catch up. Brompton Lodge was a fantastic venue and the indoor pool was the icing on the cake. Spacious, comfortable and with everything you will need for an unforgettable stay. We could even take my sister's very well behaved cockapoo. We were delighted with the welcome pack too. Such a lovely touch. With the farm cafe / shop on the corner and the coast just up the road, it's ideally located too. Hopefully we'll get to stay again sometime.

More cottagey than modern but comfortable and plenty of equipment and facilities. Swimming pool very good and was much enjoyed. Owners responded to our queries immediately and were pleasant to deal with. Lovely bakers and tearoom at the end of the road and they also serve a good breakfast. Excellent location for exploring North Yorkshire and the Wolds, lots of places to visit.
