This place does not provide any towels! This seemed odd as the only accommodation I've ever stayed in that didn't provide this basic necessity was a youth hostel. If I squint I can just about understand not providing bath towels, but not providing so much as a hand towel seems exceedingly weird to me (who takes hand towels on holiday?) We (by proxy) got in contact with the owner. The owner is not local (go figure) and said she doesn't 'normally' provide them, but as a gesture of 'good will' (?) she would send some over. She can't have had that much good will because they never appeared. There's also literally nowhere in Windermere to buy any, though we eventually got a travel towel in an outdoorsy shop in Bowness (which was actually pretty good). The key pad on the door troubles me. Extremely convenient, yes, but not very secure. As there is no additional way of locking the door (not even a sliding bolt on the inside), the thought that anyone who knows the code could enter at any time, including at night, is unsettling. Lastly, the kitchen worktops were quite sticky when we arrived but nothing a quick wipe down didn't fix. Other than that the kitchen is well stocked with crockery, cutlery and pots and pans, so if you want to cook it's easy to do so. The living room and bedroom are both spacious and comfortable, and the wifi is good. Location-wise it's very convenient, only a 5 minute walk from the train station so great if you're coming by rail, which we were. Windermere itself has great places to eat (the Tapas place and the Italian place opposite were our top picks). It's also a good base for getting to other places, even if you're carless. Bowness-on-Windermere is only a 20 minute walk and there is a frequent bus service that runs to other places of interest in the area.
