My partner and I stayed at Beech Cottage for 6 nights. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly when we called her on arrival with a question. The cottage was modern, clean and the owner has used the space well. Lots of nice little touches to make it seem homely such as dvds, board games and necessities in the kitchen. The cottage is separated from the main streets by a little alley so although it’s really close to shops and restaurants it’s also very peaceful and quiet. We found some nice takeaways close by and it’s only a short walk from train station and the beautiful Lake Windermere. Lots of lovely walks and trails close by too. The cottage is an excellent base for anyone looking to explore Cumbria. We would definitely return here and will recommend to friends.

On the good side, Beech Cottage is a small terraced property which is very adequate for a couple. The downstairs living room with small kitchen at its rear is big enough and comfortable and the upstairs double bedroom is a good size. It has a perfectly adequate shower-room/toilet upstairs. It is very close to the centre of Windermere but tucked round the back away from any noise. Parking is first come, first serve (several small terraces around) but we had no problem. On the downside, the heating was inflexible and not quite warm enough, our visit being over New Year, and the water could have been a bit hotter. The mattress was not very comfortable, though my wife and I are a bit sensitive about that. The cottage was also pricey, though it would be at New Year in the Lake District.
