This property is part of our Scottish Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This property is ideally located for a romantic break away, and benefits from a 2-person sauna and Jacuzzi bath.

In a truly unique location amid the spectacular scenery of the Island of Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides, Beach Bay Cottage is nestled on the edge of the unspoilt white sands of Uig Bay, a National Scenic Area and one of the most beautiful beaches on Scotland’s Atlantic Coast. A stunning natural stone and turf roofed single-storey detached cottage built into the hillside reflecting an ancient neolithic design with breathtaking beach views, and with access to a family friendly beach less than 110 yards from the door. In a very secluded and magical location, Beach Bay Cottage and the surrounding area is a paradise for artists, photographers and bird-watchers. There are many outdoor activities nearby, such as hill walking, surfing, kite surfing, fishing (Apr-Oct, licence required), golf, wildlife watching, boat trips (including to the World Heritage Site of St Kilda), diving, sea kayaking and cycling. The landscape and history of the Outer Hebrides, together with the hospitality of its people, provide a wonderful escape from the pressures of modern life and offer an active or relaxing family holiday or the perfect romantic retreat. The holiday property benefits from a 2-person sauna as well as having a Jacuzzi bath in the en-suite of the twin bedroom. There is a whisky distillery within 550 yards and the local community shop is only 3 miles away. There is a community café within 10 minutes drive and the nearest restaurant is a 15 minute drive away.

Living/dining room with 180-degree bay window looking directly onto beach, multi-fuel stove and patio doors to stone patio, open plan with well-equipped kitchen with slate floor. Two-person sauna. Double bedroom with 5ft bed, TV and en-suite wet room with shower, twin basins and toilet. If you want a completely different 'cottage' experience go no further than Beach Bay Cottage. Communication with the owners was friendly and they were extremely helpful with information from the start. Walking into the cottage, well, you just had to stop and stare out of the panoramic windows at the most amazing sandy beach scenery. The cottage was immaculate and all accessories you could want including a coffee pod machine (although there were some pods to start with we would advise taking your own supply as the local Uig community shop did not stock them and its a 45 minute journey to Stornoway if you need them). For provisions for your holiday Tesco deliver to the door so we would advise ordering a week in advance before your trip. The bedrooms/bathrooms were just stunning and beds so comfy. Powerful binoculars were also supplied and we were fortunate enough to spy sea and golden eagles in the bay. We could not possibly fault anything at the cottage, the location was just breath taking. The beach is amazing and the softest sand we have ever walked on. The beach is extremely safe for children and the river that runs into the sea had lots of small fish in it for the kids to catch in their nets. There are areas next to the cottage on the sand which have clams and cockles (just look for the blowholes at low tide) and armed with a rake you can have yourself a potful of them in 15 minutes for clam chowder. The local amenities are local community coffee shops and it's a pleasure to watch locals get together there and speak their native tongue. The locals are very friendly and we helped a crofter gather his cows and move them to a new grazing area on one of our walks. where else could you do that? There are no local resturants close by but there is one being built so should be good for 2019 and we would recommend SEATREK for a variety of outdoor pursuits which is only a 10 minute drive away from the cottage. If you like fishing then you have virtually unlimited lochs to fish for free with the guidance of the local ghillie who was kind enough to visit us and point to where to fish. There is beautiful scenery all around and numerous hills to climb but sadly we ran out of time. If you want total peace and quiet and a get away from it all holiday, then look no further. I would class the holiday as self catering because of the distance you would have to travel to eat out and the local Uig community shop is horrendously expensive with very little selection available to you so ensure you have a meal menu for the week and buy provisions at Tesco in Stornoway or get them delivered. If we're fortunate with availability then we'll be back 2020 for another amazing week. I understand the cottage was a monumental effort to build with the regulations and professional services to deal with so our grateful thanks to George and Lynda for making the effort and enriching our lives with an experience we will never forget. Thank you for letting us spend time in your cottage.
