Description

A tastefully converted farm building enjoying a rural location at the northern end of Lake Ullswater. Excellent access to attractions on the lake.

Minutes from Lake Ullswater

Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

We loved it. Wonderful cottage in the most beautiful surroundings with spectacular views. The village is a short walk away. Great base for walks and exploring other parts of the Lake district. The owners were really lovely too.

Excellent location, excellent owner. Only issue is if you are tall not to bump your head on the beams in the bedrooms (!), and as on all farms be prepared for flies (not loads of them, but enough to be annoying sometimes .. but not at night; I guess they sleep as well!)

This is a lovely cottage where you get a warm friendly welcome and feel comfortable and at home straight away. Weather permitting, there is a garden with a picnic table where you can take in the views and the bird sounds as you relax. There is a very comfortable, good quality bed. The bathroom is perhaps a little dated but a good size and very clean with excellent hot water pressure so you can easily enjoy a muscle relaxing hot bath after your activities in the lake district.

Stone Barn is one of three self-contained cottages situated at the farm. We have stayed in this 2 bedroom cottage twice before and always really enjoy our visit. It is a lovely spacious cottage with a homely feel and there were fresh flowers to welcome us as well as homemade cakes. Amanda and Nigel are a hardworking couple who are happy to chat but also to leave you alone to enjoy your stay. The cottage is kept warm by central heating and there is also the option of lighting a wood-burning stove. There is a well equipped kitchen with a circular dining table and in the lounge are two comfortable settees. Lovely views from the windows over the enclosed shared garden and across the fells. We were lucky to be there at lambing time and to see newly born twins and triplets in the barn. The A66 is a few miles away and there is easy access to the Western Lakes, Keswick, Ambleside etc. However, there are some lovely walks from the cottage to Pooley Bridge and the Ullswater Way, linking up with the Ullswater steamer or local bus as necessary. Penrith is a few miles up the road with some very good food shops.

we had an amazing time up here near Pooley Bridge. The cottage was beautifully placed on a wonderful farm was incredibly friendly owners. Walked straight out of the front door through the garden onto the Mooreland. A stones throw away from the lovely Pooley Bridge and a great base to explore the lakes. We will definitely be coming again. Our five month old puppy left it too alongside our daughter.
