What we love

Description

A perfect getaway for couples, this timber cottage is located amid stunning scenery in a village filmed for Monarch of the Glen and Outlander.

In a romantic setting amid stunning scenery, made famous by the BBC’s Monarch of the Glen TV series, these two architect-designed, timber clad, adjoining properties (Baltinna West UTY and Baltinna East SGGW) make a truly tranquil holiday retreat. They can be booked individually or together for two couples, and are set within an enclosed garden, each with its own private sitting-out area. Oozing character and warmth, each have their own charms and both benefit from cosy wood-burning stoves in the living room and sheepskin rugs on oak floors. Nestling between the Cairngorm and Monadhliath mountain ranges, Newtonmore is situated in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, a walker’s and birdwatcher’s paradise. Outdoor pursuits found locally include 7 golf courses, fishing on the River Spey, mountain biking, skiing, tours taking in distilleries, RSPB sites, interactive museums, and the towns of Aviemore and Inverness. Shops ¼ mile. Pubs serving very good food within 1 mile. Excellent restaurants locally. In a romantic setting amid stunning scenery, made famous by the BBC’s Monarch of the Glen and Outlander TV series, these two architect-designed, timber clad, adjoining properties (Baltinna West UTY and Baltinna East SGGW) make a truly tranquil holiday retreat. The best recommendation is to say that if we stay in the area again, we wouldn't hesitate to go back. Bottle of milk awaiting our arrival in the fridge was most welcome for a cup of tea after a long drive.

Overall an excellent stay. Only got some lower ratings because we found the mattress uncomfortable. Nothing wrong with it as such but just way too firm for us. Also think the seating downstairs could be a bit more comfortable as well. Newtonmore as a location was alright. Good base for walking. Not many dog friendly pubs around either but that's our fault for not really looking into that part of it. Overall we had a great stay! Would come again if there was a softer mattress!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for your feedback and delighted that you enjoyed your stay. I'm afraid we know you can’t please all of the people all of the time with firmness of bed, so we have a medium firmness, high quality mattress, plus a soft mattress topper, to again try to make as many people happy as possible. The mattress is only six months old as we put in a new kingsize bed in in March 2019. Re dog friendly places I think the area is pretty good and we have so many returning guests who bring their dogs here for that reason; you can take dogs into The Wildflour cafe in the centre of the village, and also for a bar meal at the Balavil shinty bar back bar and the Braeriach pub. In Kingussie 3 miles away the McInnes House hotel welcomes dogs in the bar where you can eat, and at nearby Loch Insh Boat House you can also eat in the bar all day/evenings which is dog friendly. Plus plenty of other places like The Pine Marten bar at Loch Morlich which is another popular walking spot at the beach for our regulars. For a small village I think that's probably above average, though as dog owners ourselves we wish everywhere welcomed pets.
