This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Sleeping fifteen guests and with plenty of facilities on the estate, there is something to keep the whole family entertained.

Set in the heart of rolling Devon countryside, the privately owned Ashcombe country estate nestles in a quiet, beautiful valley filled with things to do and a short drive from the sandy beaches of Dawlish and Torquay. Enjoy walking around the estate’s hills and woodlands, swim in the heated indoor swimming pool, or relax in the sauna at Woodhouse Farm while children play in the indoor and outdoor playgrounds. Both The Cider Barn, a mile away and sleeping 16, and Nut Tree Farm, sleeping 28, have their own outdoor swimming pools for the summer.
The cottages are both comfortable and practical, with a wide range of Devon attractions right on the doorstep. All are maintained to very high standards with leather sofas, Wi-Fi, flatscreen digital TVs and very comfortable beds. Many retain original features, including oak beamed ceilings, and all have either Italian-tiled or wooden floors.
Sleeping from 4 to 28 people, and rated either 4 or 5 stars, the cottages can accommodate almost any party size, and an in-house chef (arranged direct with the owner) can be booked to take care of the catering.
The brilliant Ashcombe Adventure Centre for outdoor activities, is just under a mile down the lane. Available at extra cost for those 14 years and over, it offers quad bike safaris, clay pigeon shooting, archery, paintballing and more. Also located on the estate is ’A Touch of the Wild’, a camp-based forest activity club. Children can take part in bush-craft courses and activities ranging from camp fire cooking and toasting marshmallows to bug hunting and learning woodland skills - a day with the experienced staff will ensure youngsters come away with a new found love of the great outdoors. The Ashcombe Village Club opens on various evenings providing cheap beer in a cheerful atmosphere, event evenings, traditional summer fêtes and shows.
Both Dartmoor National Park and the historic city of Exeter are only a 20-minute drive away, while the famous South Devon Coast, with wonderful sandy beaches, is barely 3 miles. Exeter and Newton Abbot Racecourses, several golf courses, loads of family theme parks, zoos, sailing and fishing are all within easy reach, not to mention the many excellent pubs and restaurants that Devon is famous for. Walk in the wild beauty of Dartmoor with its abundance of wildlife and dramatic landscapes, or visit the numerous nearby National Trust properties including Agatha Christie’s house, Greenway. Steam trains travel from Kingswear to Paignton and Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Visit historic Dartmouth with bustling boat harbour, castle, contemporary art galleries and boutiques and brilliant Regatta Week and Air Show. Salcombe with its beaches, sailing and water sports is also easily accessible, as well as Blackpool Sands, Slapton and picturesque Dittisham. Slightly further afield, East Cornwall and the Eden Project are within an hour’s drive.
All in all Ashcombe is an excellent base from which to explore, experience and enjoy ‘The Cream of Devon’. All big supermarkets deliver direct to your cottage. Main shops 3 miles.

We booked Rainbow Cottage as a surprise family weekend away for our mum's 70th birthday. There were 10 adults and 5 children with an age range from 1-77! The communication from Ashcombe Country Cottages was very good, the cottage was beautiful, clean and very well equipped and the location was great: easy to find and not too far off the beaten track! The cottage had a great lounge space for socialising and the enormous kitchen made cooking for 15 easy, with lots of eating space so we could all enjoy meals together. The bedrooms were spacious, beds were comfy and everyone had either an ensuite or own bathroom meaning no arguments! But what really made our weekend were the facilities. The children's playpark was excellent and suitable for all ages, the games room and playroom were invaluable as we had very wet weather, but the pool was the real treat. It was warm, clean and we swam (all of us) 5 times in 2.5 days! My 7 year old daughter actually asked if she could have rainbow cottage for her birthday! ( I think she meant to keep, not for a party!!!) We also had an amazing time playing hide and seek and sardines in the cottage as the two wings made it really exciting and there were lots of good hiding spaces! I cannot recommend this place enough for a family getaway, and we will definitely be going back. Many thanks Ashcombe, we will see you again!

An amazing cottage with all of the equipment you could need. It had plenty of plates etc even had a dishwasher with tablets. There were 13 of us and in 7 bedrooms we all had plenty of room and a comfortable nights sleep. Lots of showers and toilets en suite. There were other people in the other cottages but we had the pool and sauna to ourselves as they didn't use it. We were a bit worried when we found out that there was a hen party next door but they were no problem to us and we couldn't hear them. The children loved the play area behind us and the views were lovely all around. Would thoroughly recommend it. We had a Sainsbury's home delivery which saved us bringing all of the food we needed. It was to celebrate a 60th Birthday so a great venue for all of the family to get together. We would love to come back again but will probably be booked up quickly so better start planning for next year. It is off the beaten track so very quiet and secluded.

The only reasons we didn't score the cottage a 10 overall was that, although the location was very pretty and close to local towns, the roads nearby were extremely narrow and difficult to drive. In addition sound travelled easily into rooms so if you are in a large group where some people stay up whilst the others retire early ear plugs are recommended for these wishing to sleep early!

We had a lovely holiday in Rainbow cottage, the facilities for the children were fantastic and the layout of the bedrooms was ideal for 3 families sharing. The only thing that could have made it better was if the kitchen area was updated, many cracked floor tiles and tired units, but this wouldn’t stop us returning for another holiday!

Great weekend with three generations from 1 to 72 Everyone enjoyed the weekend. Great position near the play park and swimming pool. Sainsburys delivered as no nearby supermarket but that didn’t bother us. Fully recommend the complex and we will certainly return
