The lodge takes its name from the elegant curlews that frequent the nearby foreshore and the fields in front of the chalets, particularly from autumn through to early spring. Their distinctive calls and graceful presence add to the unique charm of this special location, making it a haven for nature lovers and birdwatchers alike.
Inside, Curlew Lodge is both comfortable and practical, designed to accommodate a range of guests. It features two well-appointed bedrooms: a flexible king-size room that can also be configured as twin beds, and a second bedroom with twin beds. This makes the lodge ideal for couples, friends, or small families. The bedrooms share a family bathroom equipped with a cubicle shower and a handrail, providing additional support where needed.
Accessibility has been carefully considered, and the lodge is particularly suitable for guests with mobility needs. A ramp provides easy access to the entrance, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay for everyone.
The surrounding area offers plenty to see and do. Just a short stroll away lies Carse Bay, a beautiful and unspoilt stretch of coastline along the Solway Firth. Here, you can enjoy scenic walks, wonderful views, and opportunities to spot wildlife, from seabirds to occasional seals. The wide beach is perfect for peaceful strolls, picnics, or simply soaking in the fresh sea air.
For those wishing to explore further, the nearby village of Kirkbean offers a quiet glimpse of local life, while the historic town of Dumfries is within easy reach for shops, cafés, and cultural attractions. History enthusiasts may enjoy visiting John Paul Jones Birthplace Museum, he was known as “The Father of the American Navy” for his instrumental role in its creation, located on the estate itself.
Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of walking and cycling routes across Dumfries and Galloway, with opportunities to explore forests, coastline, and rolling countryside. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, wildlife, or gentle adventure, Curlew Lodge provides an ideal base.
With its peaceful orchard setting, thoughtful layout, and proximity to the sea, Curlew Lodge offers a truly relaxing and memorable stay in one of Scotland’s most quietly beautiful regions.
