Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Located along the main promenade, with all the amenities right on your doorstep, this impressive Victorian house occupies a prime position within the traditional seaside town of Southport.

Built by a rich mill owner in the 19th century and one of the only houses along the promenade that remains a single dwelling, 28 The Promenade offers spacious and comfortable accommodation, perfect for large families or group of friends looking for a coastal escape. Stepping into the hall with its bespoke tiled flooring and leaded windows, you are reminded of the grandeur that this property enjoyed during its hey day. With its high ceilings and generously sized rooms, the light just pours in, making this house feel very bright and airy, just what you would expect from a coastal property.

Whether you are looking for an active holiday or a relaxing break, Southport has something to offer everyone. Ideally located between Liverpool and Blackpool along the Sefton Coast, Southport has over 22 miles of coastline and one of the oldest piers in the UK. The pier, along with the fun fair, Ferris wheel, Splash World indoor water park, bowling, cinema, theatre, laser quest and restaurants are all within a 10-minute walk, which means you can leave the car parked at the house and not have to worry about traffic or parking. The train station is also within a 10-minute walk and from here, you can take a train into Manchester or Liverpool.

Just across the road is King’s Gardens, a 17-acre garden which has an adventure playground, tea rooms and lake. It hosts various events throughout the year including an outdoor cinema. Other popular annual events held in Southport include the RHS Flower Show, fireworks championships and Southport Air Show. Southport is also famous for its world-class golf courses, including the Royal Birkdale Golf Club. Shoppers will enjoy Southport’s famous Lord Street, which apart from having lots of great shops, also has plenty of nice bars, cafés and restaurants. Again this is within just a 10-minute walk of the property.

Of course there is also lots to do outside of Southport itself. Young children will enjoy a visit to Farmer Teds (11 miles) or Windmill Farm (9 miles), whilst nature lovers may wish to visit Martin Mere Wetlands Centre (10 miles) or the red squirrel nature reserve at Formby (10 miles). Blackpool, with many attractions including the famous tower, beach, zoo, Pleasure Beach, Sealife Centre and Madame Tussauds, is within an hour’s drive. Quieter beaches in the area include Formby, Ainsdale and Crosby Beach which is home to Anthony Gormley’s sculpture ‘Another Place’. Golf available nearby. Beach ¼ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Great location for a family get together, space for 3 cars, lots for children to do across the road. The large kitchen in the house was well equipped and great to be able to get everyone around the long table. The utility room and small sunny conservatory meant everyones washing was out of the way, plus with four toilets, no one was left waiting!! Living room had 3x2 seater settees and 2 chairs but still needed a few more seats. Minimum games, so take your own. Overall a lovely place to stay, you won't be disappointed.

What a lovely place to stay with excellent access to local amenities. A real family home but also a sense of grandeur as you enter the property and its position on the 'sea front'. The hosts were excellent and so accommodating. Fabulous value for money (we live in Cambridge). We took advantage of the active theatre culture in Liverpool and went to see shows two nights during our stay. Obviously also a trip to Blackpool as we had older children with us (full day at Pleasure Beach with enough rides to satisfy anyone for £25 per head for all day). We also went bowling, to the cinema (£5 per head) and played Crazy Golf. Lots of traditional holiday activities. We would definitely stay again

We had a fantastic time here. A spacious and well equipped house in a prime position. We plan on returning soon.

Our family had a great time staying at this house. The location was perfect for the 4 grandchildren aged 21 months, 3, 3 and 6 years. We didn't sample any pubs or restaurants, preferring to cook and eat together and we're pleased with the well stocked kitchen and the large table. I was a little worried about the glass coffee tables with the young children, but we moved them to the side of the room, which helped.

This is our second visit to Sandfield’s within 6 months. The first was for a family get together with small children. The house was ideal and the local for the amenities couldn't have been better. Our second visit was with a group of friends for a long weekend. Again the house was ideal for a large group and the location on the promenade was perfect for early morning walks and easy walking distance to restaurants and entertainment in the evening. The booking process was easy with great communication from John. Without doubt we will be planning another visit and stay at Sandfield House sooner than later.

As a group of middle aged to "getting on a bit" friends and neighbours, we rent properties like Sandfield once or twice a year in various locations around the country. We research and weigh all the pro's and con's of all the properties before we book, and we have always been very happy with our choices. With Sandfield, we found a unique mix of accommodation, location and entertainment. Sandfield is tastefully furnished and decorated to the highest order with high end fittings and equipment. The enormous lounge offers a great place for lazing or watching the superb TV, and the very large kitchen provided a table that comfortably seated twelve for delightful evening dinners and also served as a great place to play games or watch another TV. All the beds are reported as comfortable and bed linens and towels are of excellent quality, and the Bathrooms are very well appointed. We had four cars parked on the drive without a problem. Everyone said that they really, really enjoyed this break. But in respect of Sandfield itself, and we have rented some lovely properties over the years, we thought that Sandfield has an air of grandeur about it. Enjoy, we did!

The house was lovely and comfortable. We had young children and teenagers as well as us adults and each of us was delighted with it in our own way. It was conveniently located for activities and pleasant to relax in during the cold evenings. The rooms are lovely and warm and the facilities are excellent. It was also very nice to be welcomed on arrival and the welcome pack was lovely.
