Mendip Hills Cottages

This is a very special area in Somerset to the south of Bristol and Bath plus there’s a great choice of holiday cottages in the Mendip Hills. By using our extensive feature list you can easily find your perfect one such as garden or patio, pub within 1 mile or coast within 5 miles, the choice really is yours.

The area has been designated an AONB and thought to be one of England’s most attractive landscapes. The distinctive limestone ridge rises from the Somerset Levels and Chew Valley with spectacular views to Wales, the Quantocks and Glastonbury. Dry valleys, gorges and striking rocky outcrops can be found on the windswept plateau and on the hill tops you’ll come across hundreds of ancient monuments.

The area really does lend itself to walking and with a great choice of pet friendly cottage rentals in the Mendip Hills this is a perfect place to take your dog on holiday. For the very energetic the Mendip Way is a 50 mile long distance trail connecting Weston-super-Mare via Cheddar and Wells ending at Frome. There’s also a great choice of shorter walks, try Blagdon Lake, Chew Magna and Stanton Drew or Three Priddy Droves, with over 18 recognised walks you’ll be spoilt for choice.

It’s not all about walking and a great day can be spent at Cheddar Caves and Gorge. The limestone gorge is rugged and spectacular with stunning views, a natural landmark that won’t disappoint. There are great opportunities for horse riding with some great hacks in the area out of Blagdon. Star Gazers shouldn’t miss Charterhouse Centre Observatory in Blagdon, although you do need to prearrange your trip.

For the history and culture enthusiasts Wells Cathedral just outside the Mendip Hills AONB is in the heart of England’s smallest city of Wells, built in the Gothic style the current structure was built between the 12th and 15th century. This is a significant landmark in Somerset and the South West and has won awards for tourism excellence. Next to the cathedral are the Bishop’s Palace and Gardens, home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for over 800 years. This is a splendid historic site and the gardens are a real hidden gem and open for everyone to enjoy.

Cottage rentals in the Mendip Hills are the best way to make the most of a holiday here giving you the space and freedom to do exactly what you want when you want.
