On arrival, 9pm, the barn was outstanding viewing. On the next day little niggles started to bother us. Firstly both the bathroom door locks were broken which could've proved to be embarrassing, as there were four adults on holiday, but we managed to establish a system for this. Secondly every time you ran a tap in either bathroom or the shower a loud screech emitted from the kitchen. Thirdly the wetroom flooded into the hallway via under the bathroom door whenever you had a shower. Fourthly the larger double bed collapsed on us on the second night. On closer inspection, it appeared that the middle underneath supporting leg was too short but the owners must have known this because they had propped it up with a "too short" block of wood. Once this fell the whole bed went on one side and myself and my husband spent the rest of the holiday in the two single beds!! Fifthly, one of the dining chairs bolts and screws fell out whilst husband was sitting on it, when he screwed it back on he found that all of the others were loose as well. Finally, whilst the large doors and the kitchen door gave us much comfort when opened letting a great breeze through the barn, they kept on shutting as there were no latches to lock them back, only one door stop was supplied.

Our second visit to Yew Tree Barn and once again we had a fantastic stay. We had a small problem with the heating one day, which the owners attended to promptly and efficiently. We will almost certainly be returning again next year. This property meets all our needs and feels so homely. The welsh cakes are a nice touch, and if you read the brief before arrival then you wont be dissapointed

It has been a week since we stayed at Yew Tree Barn and we haven't had our £50 security deposit returned despite leaving the place spotless. With other companies we have used (we take at least five short breaks a year in self catering accommodation) we are offered optional insurance, never been asked to hand cash to the owner directly). The sheets are not cotton, so we spent our Friday night driving to Pontypool to buy some, plus tea towels (none provided) and basic items like salt, pepper, olive oil, eggs and bread. I have never stayed in a property that didn't at least have these items in the store cupboard or welcome basket. If we had been advised before that the cupboards are completely empty we would have prepared for that but it didn't get our break off to the best start. On leaving there was a fairly curt note asking us to strip any beds we had slept in and to wash the sheets. We did take the sheets off and put them in the washing machine but no washing powder was provided so we couldn't put the wash through. It was a pleasant space but the lack of a few basic provisions and courtesies spoilt the experience.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review, feedback is always appreciated. We request a £50 security deposit, which is clearly stated when the booking is made. We ask for this by cheque two weeks prior to arrival - which is also stated on the Hoseasons information pack. If we have not received the cheque by the time you arrive we ask for it in cash on arrival. Our policy is to return the deposit within two weeks of departure, which yours was. All our bed sheets are without exception Egyptian cotton with a thread count that ranges from 350 to 500. Our welcome pack consists of welsh cakes, tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk as well as toiletries; toilet rolls, soap, shampoo and shower gel. Also some cleaning products are provided for example; a couple of washing machine pouches, some dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid and other cleaning sprays. As this is self-catering accommodation, we do not provide food, many bring this with them, some go to the local convenience stores or the big supermarkets - to suit their needs. Two kitchen towels, if not hanging on the oven, can be found in the second kitchen draw. A bath towel and a face towel per guest (both cotton) can be found in the bathrooms. We have a note inside a cupboard door asking, before you leave: "*Could you please remove the bed covers on the beds used. *Could you please put used towels in the bath tub. *It would also be helpful if you started a laundry before you leave ..." We go on to ask for items moved to be put back and generally leave the property as you found it. We ask for help with this, as it helps us when we have back to back bookings as this speeds up the changeover significantly - which can sometimes be tight on time and moving furniture back can be nearly impossible for one person. This is not intended to be curt, but to help ensure the barn is ready on time for the next guest’s arrival and also an acceptable work place for the caretaker. We aim to provide a pleasant barn for everyone.
