Welsh Country Cottages

Description

Enjoy a cosy woodburning stove and underfloor heating at this 18th century cottage after a busy day exploring Anglesey’s attractions.

Known locally as the ‘ink pot’, this detached Welsh holiday cottage is constructed of stone under a slate roof, and dates back to the 1700s. Sympathetically restored, it offers a high standard of accommodation, boasting electric underfloor heating, two cosy wood-burning stoves, exposed beams, and sunny garden with views over fields and woods. Visitors are welcome to roam the 75-acre grounds and there are many interesting days out including rib rides and fishing trips on the Menai Strait, Beaumaris Castle and, of course, Snowdonia National Park. Attractions on Anglesey include stunning beaches, art galleries, and Plas Newydd, cycling and go-karting. The round Anglesey Coastal Path is under 1 mile. Shop 2 miles.

Beamed open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove and well-equipped modern fitted kitchen area. Utility with toilet. Beamed double bedroom with 5ft bed, wood-burning stove and en-suite bathroom with separate shower cubicle and toilet. Twin bedroom.

This is our second visit to Y Potel Inc, it's a great cottage, very clean, well equipped, and comfortable. The garden is very secure and perfect for dogs to run around in. The location is great for sightseeing around Anglesey, with a fantastic woodland and beach, less than a 10 minute drive away. We will definitely be visiting this cottage again.

A fantastic find. Absolutely loved the weekend. Things like the bath give a sense of luxury. Nice and quiet, didn't really notice the road. Nothing much close by but if you're looking to get away from it all then this is the place to go. Hopefully we'll get the chance to return.

This is a perfectly decent and comfortable cottage but we felt that it was not getting enough attention from the owners. From the point of view of a dog owner, the cottage’s greatest asset is the garden which is a good size and secure. We did worry that our small dog might be able to squeeze under the gate but it never tried to. The owner was helpful when part of the heating system failed and he promptly provided supplementary radiators. However, there are two areas where we would suggest improvements. The first is that someone should meet guests soon after they arrive to show them how everything works. We were left struggling with some unfamiliar equipment. The heating system in particular is fiddly and requires guests to read and follow detailed instructions if you want to change anything (with the added request that you change it back before you leave). The heating should be set for each visitor on arrival according to their preferences. The second area for improvement is that the cottage needs a general makeover. The standard of holiday cottages is so high now and this one was distinctly less impressive than others we have visited. On the one hand there was the unnecessarily poor quality of a few of the items supplied which undermined the generally good standard of the cottage. On the other hand were items missing or broken. Some of the things we came across: mislaid instruction manual for the hob, broken toilet roll holder, cracked tea pot lid, tatty coasters, no kitchen roll, freezer needed defrosting, a broken ladle, a sharp knife with a broken handle, stained chair cushions, stained duvet, worn chopping boards, very worn glass bowl, the bathroom shaving light only comes on if you push the casing, a piece of skirting board lying on the floor, no compost liners (required to recycle food waste), fading curtains. If these matters are attended to then I am sure the cottage will be back to a high standard.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry our cottage fell below your expectations. We did our very best to rectify things for you during your stay including showing you how to use the hob and bedroom lighting, and we provided ample heating. I am sorry you declined to use the woodburning stoves as they would have added hugely to the warmth and ambience of your stay. We have spoken to the team of professional cleaners about your list and they will redouble their efforts. I am also confident that our annual inspection will throw up any issues that we need to address.
