One of two holiday properties, this converted, semi-detached, single-storey Grade II listed barn has been awarded 4 stars by Visit Britain. Located on a sheep farm with views across the Axe Valley, it enjoys 150 acres of green fields and woodland. The heating comes from a wood biomass boiler, and the electricity is via a 50kw solar panel array. Watch the farm animals including ‘Naughty Nobby’ the farm ostrich! There are picnic sites and a children’s play area. Seaton, 2 miles, with mile long beach. Take a trip on Seaton’s tramway along the Axe Estuary to the medieval market town of Colyton. Next to the tramway is the Seaton Marshes Nature Reserve. The viewing hide and wheelchair-friendly paths means this beautiful area and its wildlife (wildfowl and wading birds in winter; dragonflies and butterflies in summer) are easily accessible. Golf, fishing and cliff walks within easy reach. The seaside resort of Lyme Regis with its Cobb, offers sailing and water-skiing. Visit the Donkey Sanctuary, Broadwindsor Craft Centre, Crealy Adventure Park or Bicton Park Gardens. Shop 1.5 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

    A lovely location with a warm and friendly owner. The house does need some updates but a little chintz never hurt anyone! Our main issue would be the cleanliness and appliances. The dishwasher door has lost its release cap so when opened plummets to the floor - if you haven't moved your foot then be prepared for some damage. The bedlinen, towels etc all lovely and clean but the house is covered in cobwebs and spiders. Not just on the ceilings but door frames, windows, curtains and skirting boards. I had to wash crockery and glassware before use as smelt musty and some were dirty.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments about the friendly owner, location, clean linen and towels - not sure I would agree the house is covered with cobwebs - previous reviewers have commented it was "Spotlessly Clean" on more than one occasion. We do our best each week to eliminate cobwebs, but there are lots of nooks and crannies - spiders also work 24/7 - we are only allowed in there once a week. Nevertheless, we will continue to battle the 8 legged fiends. Every house has the odd spider. Sorry about the dishwasher door - we were not aware it was serious until you brought it to our attention. I hope the free bottle of wine ameliorated you a little. Dishwasher is being replaced within the next few days so hopefully the crockery will be cleaner. Thank you again for pointing out some issues which we are dealing with to make future bookings even more enjoyable. I hope the score of 5/10 won't detract other people from booking our favourite cottage Ashley’s, as if previous high scores have proved; it is a wonderful place to stay for many reasons.

    Cosy (small) living area. Bedrooms and bathrooms all a good size. Dated furniture and appliances in much need of an upgrade.

    Response on behalf of the owner:- Thankyou for your positive comments. Ashleys is one of our favourite Old Style Barn Conversions with 2 en-suites and separate Jacuzzi Room. To have modern flashy equipment in there would detract from its Old Style Charm, but a slight change of décor is planned. All the extensive equipment is fully functional and Ashleys has all the "mod cons" that a modern family requires. I am sorry that you were looking for something a little more contemporary. People keep coming back to us every year for our friendly service, prime location and our popular 4 Star Accommodations.

    A very good week - comfortable and cosy cottage - spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. Not sure it needs the jacuzzi bath - water wasteful - room could be put to better use/more storage etc. Kitchen - another food storage cupboard would be useful. Nothing to complain about just a few comments.

    We adore Devon. This cottage was in an ideal sort for us as e are out walking everyday enjoying the area. This cottage was spacious and so cosy to come back to every evening. Everything was supplied spa bath was a lovely extra.
