Description

Garden Cottage is the perfect accommodation for two looking for a lovely retreat surrounded by countryside.

"A truly magical estate to escape to and unwind..."

High in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.
Set in 30 acres of parkland and woods, with grazing sheep, deer, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons giving a spectacular spring display. While the organic walled kitchen gardens grow some more unusual varieties of vegetables to the UK. You will find Romanesco, Cavelo Nero, and Pink Fir Apple potatoes to name a few, all complimentary subject to season and availability.
Picture perfect and just for two, Garden Cottage is the ideal romantic retreat, entered via one of the walled gardens. The spacious, comfortable living/dining room has oak floors, antiques and beautiful period Edwardian knoll sofa. While the lovely kitchen with oak work tops and slate floor has everything you need to create that romantic meal for two. For that touch of opulence, there is a superb walnut inlaid 5ft French empire-style bed, while the en-suite bathroom has large walk-in shower. Enjoy balmy evenings on the terrace looking onto the walled garden, perfect for watching the sun go down.
For romantics you really ought to spend a day at Knightshayes Court near Tiverton. It combines medieval romanticism with lavish Victorian decoration, with an elegant boudoir and drawing room, giving a taste of country house living.Fishing and horse riding can be found within 5 miles. Shops and pubs 5 miles.

Large living/dining room with oak floor. Large kitchen with oak worktops and slate floor. Double bedroom with 5ft French, inlaid bed, oak floor and en-suite shower room with double shower cubicle and toilet.

The Garden Cottage is an absolute gem. Set in beautiful grounds within the Devon countryside it forms part of a larger and secluded estate. The surroundings are excellent and include two walled gardens in which the owners grow a range of fruit and veg which are available for residents to pick. Nothing better than to wonder in to one of the gardens, select what you need for a meal, pick it, prepare it, cook it and then eat it. The decor and facilities within the cottage were excellent and included all we needed for our weeks stay. When we arrived we were met by the owners, Katy & Kevin and made to feel very much at home. They took time to show us around the cottage, talked about the gardens and offered information about the locality. Nothing was too much for them. If we wanted a Sunday lunch then The Hunters Inn was the place to go, and Kevin was spot on. We too would recommend a short drive to a pleasant local pub and excellent food. We would most definitely book to stay again (and again!)

We spent a week in July at this beautiful country cottage on the Webbery Manor estate north Devon this year. It was a last minute booking so we had a very good discount which was worthwhile, and made the value for money even better; having said that, even at full price we would have been pleased all the same. The location is so peaceful, no traffic, just the noise of local wildlife and the odd tractor, so perfect for anyone looking for complete relaxation. The Cottage was well equipped and beautifully furnished throughout, although I would have liked to have had more comfortable sofas in the lounge, as the very grand looking Knowle style ones were not very comfortable for any length of time, and we did miss a bath in the the shower room, but the shower worked very well and served its purpose. There is a fantastic tennis court with its own pavilion which we made good use of andwe felt a great asset to the property. The garden cottage has its own door out into one of two splendid walled gardens, where residents are welcome to pick the homegrown produce to use at no additional cost, providing wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables according to season, and you will very often see the wonderful owner Katy labouring away in her garden and she obviously loves this past time and it shows in the beautiful gardens that are all around the estate. The location is great for nearby north Devon coast and beaches, and you can easily get to central Devon in 30 minutes from here, too. There are several other cottages on the estate of various sizes, but you still feel secluded and are not disturbed by anyone most days. Both Katy and her husband Kevin are wonderful hosts and will assist with advice on where to eat, drink and explore as they have a wealth of knowledge and are great to chat with. We would definitely return again and would have no problem recommending the cottage and estate to others!
