We really loved the stay and would like to go again! It's very clean and all rooms equipped fairly new and very clean bedding. The whole house feels very welcome and homey. You could settle in as soon as you walked in the front door. Furniture is perfect match to the cottage - nothing more nothing less. It's just right! We loved the paintings on the wall. It gives the feeling of love - love to the village and to their own family. I presume the little girl in the paint was painted by the mother who previously owned the cottage. According to locals the cottage was converted from 3 little cottages - so the space inside are very big. Compare to the interior, the outside garden was even bigger. It's not only the size but also the design. Every corner in the garden is a little surprise. I did see quite a few cottage garden design books! The only thing I would like to have is a shower. However it's seemed only bothered me not the rest of the family.

I have always wanted to live in a thatched cottage but as I will never be able to afford one, this was the next best thing. This cottage exceeded my expectations. It was beautiful. The beams, the creaky floorboards, the little details like the carved mouse in the wall of the alcove bed on the landing. The garden was spectacular, just went on and on and beautifully laid out. The village was rural and quiet just as we like it. As you can tell I loved this cottage and would recommend it to everyone.

We loved it. Were so very pleased with the cottage. The garden was absolutely beautiful especially as Springtime. The kitchen was well equipped and the location was perfect for country walks with plenty of places to see around and about. Suggest Ludlow! Thank you very much :)

We felt it important to notify you of our extremely poor & surprisingly bad holiday experience with the quality of this cottage on arrival. In essence this refers to : * filthy & unusable washing up bowl & dishcloth & sponges.. How this could have been left out for reuse was incredulous!! * all the utensils were positively archaic suggesting they'd all been acquired as a job lot from a charity shop, not of the reasonable quality linked to previous standards we'd experienced at all other cottages rented from your site. * every single mug was so stained we had to go out the following day to purchase bleach so that they were brought up to an acceptable standard. * on retiring to our bedroom to our dismay we found bedding to smell stale & the collection of mismatched sheets & duvet covers appeared to be at least 10 years old. We did not sleep as our skin was itching all night. Further investigation revealed a blood stained mattress cover & we then spent further time on our holiday when we should have been relaxing stripping beds & washing everything. * Whilst we appreciate this is an old cottage our overall feeling was that this fact should not have had a negative impact on our experience . This was infact wholly due to the unacceptable standards of furnishings, utensils & hygiene in the property. We're not unrealistic with the standards that we expect when renting a property ( we have never complained before ) but we felt that these experiences we had to overcome meant that our holiday was severely compromised & we didn't have the relaxation we had wished for as a result. We are extremely concerned that you are unaware of the unacceptable standard that this cottage presented and await your response As a parting note, when collecting the keys from the next door neighbour upon our initial arrival, he seemed oblivious to this prior booking and said " oh, I didn't think anyone was coming this week " . As regular customers of your company and given the fact that we've never been dissatisfied before after several bookings we felt compelled to raise these issues as it completely spoilt our holiday !!!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I have never in any phase of my life received such a vitriolic letter. I am sorry that the guest chose not to contact us at any stage to address the issues described, but equally refuse to believe that they had such an extreme impact on their holiday at the cottage. Of course there were a few details which should not have been present and we will do everything possible to ensure they do not happen again. But the fact is that a balanced view would recognise that Walnut Tree Cottage is a long-standing family home that we are continually attempting to improve for our visitors, and the majority of families who stay there state that they have enjoyed the experience - with many returning on repeat visits. We are continually investing in new furniture, bedding crockery, etc., and most of our guests can see and understand that this is a large comfortable cottage with many desirable features, and with a lovely enclosed garden in wonderful walking countryside. As an intriguing parting note, I understand that the guest spent a week at the cottage and returned the keys to our next-door neighbour stating that they had had a lovely time there.
