Description

Attractive barn conversion situated on a working farm offering horse riding lessons along the nearby beach.

This group of three holiday properties (refs 23249, 29517 and 29518) occupy a great central touring position that is close to the beautiful Mawddach Estuary, Mawddach trail and cycle path; once on the trail, a public footpath runs alongside all the way to the fantastic sandy beach, ideal for families wanting to be near the sea. Walk the other direction on the trail, and go over the famous wooden railway bridge across the estuary to Barmouth. Situated on the owners’ working farm, guests to Bwlchgwyn Farm have the added attraction of horseriding on site - you can pony trek on the beach or have lessons. This area is great for bird watching, fishing and mountain biking, with easy access to the mountain bike centre at Coed Y Brenin, and Go Ape. It is also well-placed for visiting Cader Idris and the Creggenan Lakes. All areas of Cardigan Bay, including Tywyn, Fairbourne, Dolgellau and Barmouth, are easy to reach from this midway point; whilst some resorts offer sandy beaches, others have an array of shops, many full of typical Welsh crafts and gifts. A little further afield, the towns and mountain ranges of Snowdonia have plenty to offer visitors of all ages. The Fairbourne/Highland steam railways, slate mines, Portmeirion Italianate village, Mount Snowdon and numerous castles and golf courses (nearest 2 miles) are to be found within the Snowdonia National Park. Hen Ysgubir (29518) is a ground floor apartment, situated below Ysgubor Uchaf (29517), which is the first floor apartment. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Ground floor: Living/dining room with laminate tiled floor. 5 steps up to kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft), 1 twin. 5 steps up to bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double with additional single, 1 twin, both with sloping ceilings. Shower room with toilet.

The notice for this property is rather worse for wear so it was difficult to identify that we had arrived. The direction that it is adjacent to a garage we did not find to be helpful. The cottage was welcoming internally, and externally has a good sized patio table and chairs. However, the property is situated on a busy road so traffic is constantly going past when sat on the patio. Internally, cleanliness wasn't excellent ie. cobwebs on the staircase, numerous items under beds in the twin. It was comfortable however. The property could do with one extra toilet, as the two toilets are situated within a bathroom and shower room (the former is straight off the kitchen) - this is not sufficient for the number of people that this property caters for. Incidentally, we did have to keep repairing the toilet handle in the downstairs bathroom. The public trail to the beach at Fairbourne is not marked at the property end, we only found it by walking back from the beach where it is marked as a public path. It is a fair hike though. Walking along the road to Fairbourne is dangerous due to it being a twisty and busy road. The kitchen is a good size but we could have done with some scissors and a serving bowl. For us, the equestrian centre was a plus. We really enjoyed the 2 hour beach trek on horse back - all the equestrian centre staff were great and made it an enjoyable and safe experience. We also enjoyed watching the activity around the horses each day.
