Because of the beautiful pictures of the cottage in the internet, which give an impression of smartness, we booked the cottage for one week. We are two persons from Germany, sorry for my English. At least the cottage is like it is shown on the pictures, the same furniture and all. I think, that the cottage was prepared as a building to dwell in in the 50ies of the last century. The windows are old (and not clean..), they are for the most part not to open, especially in the double-bedroom. There is only a door-window which is indeed to open, but unsecure, because it is, as to leave a door open, it would be an entrance for animals or whatever. Impossible during nights.. The curtain has stock-patches, it smells musty. The whole sleeping section is smelling musty and moldy, also the really comfortable beds and the bedding (older stuff with feathers). The antique furniture is, like the whole furniture in the cottage, in actual fact higher graded, but not civilized. In parts not clean. Difficult to use, drawers and doors heavy to open (in the sleeping area), drawers not clean... The sisal is a wonder-carpet, if something is falling on it, it disappears..maybe into dust, it is not to see anymore, but to discover randomly, like the pethairs (also to find on other places). The carpet smells. The small sofa is old, worn-out and not clean. Too much dust in many spaces. The possibility to light a fire in the living room is pleasant, good prepared by available material therefore. The bathroom is nice, but the wall beside the toilet shows mold. The eating table in the kitchen was not clean. The very nice kitchen itself is extraordinary well equipped, especially the electric stuff. I liked the kitchen (preparing and cooking area) most. I don't want to maul the cottage and the owner, it is really nice and equipped tastefully but it is time to refurbish parts of the cottage and the furniture. For me as an allergic person, who wanted to refresh the respiratory tract in the sea-air of beautiful Wales, the climate in the cottage was a nightmare. Originally it is cozy and nice, but it must be thoroughly cleaned and refurbished for the price which is to pay for it. I informed the owner about all the disadvantages I wrote down here and hope that these things become better in future for the guests in the cottage.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. On arrival theses guests were shown round the property and they advised me that they were allergic to feathers in duvets and pillows so I provided hypo allergenic pillows. The guests asked for blankets instead of duvets. These were provided but the guests were told that the blankets had been unused in drawers for some time and therefore not aired. This was what the guests referred to as "musty". Had I been advised prior to arrival I would have ensured all was aired and in place prior for their arrival. The windows in the main bedroom which is on the ground floor are floor to ceiling height. It is therefore advisable for security reasons not to leave them open when going out or at night. The room is always cool in summer as the stonewalls are very thick. The antique furniture is clearly indicated on the website and it is in keeping with the style of this historic Welsh longhouse. All drawers and wardrobes are lined with scented paper, replaced earlier this summer, to avoid any mustiness and they are cleaned after each stay. All rooms except the master bedrooms have Velux windows, which can be left open all day to circulate air. The window frames were due to be repainted earlier this year but this was delayed due to bad weather and we will ensure this is done in the autumn. As the fire is lit on a frequent or daily basis, naturally the smell of wood smoke spreads throughout the cottage unless you close the adjoining doors, which creates a smoky smell that cannot be avoided unless the fire is not used. We can put more lavender and pot pourri around the cottage and ask future guests to close the adjoining doors. Dust and cobwebs appear very quickly in old cottages. We clean thoroughly the morning before each visitor's arrival but we cannot guarantee that throughout the week a spider's web won't return. The carpets will be steam cleaned again this autumn. We have certainly taken your comments on board and will pass them onto our cleaner and handyman in order to ensure that the cottage is to the highest standard for all future guests.

Ty Christian is a beautiful, characterful cottage with such a homely feel. It is well equipped and delightfully quirky in its layout. (If steps are a problem, then it might not be the best as there are several different levels) Unless you live in a sterile, hothouse environment, please ignore the disparaging reviews posted previously. If you want a real Welsh cottage for your holiday, then Ty Christian is for you! We were new to this area of Wales and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the beautiful coast and interesting local towns and villages. We would definitely return to Ty Christian should we wish to return to the area.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for very kind comments and to everyone who has been so thoughtful as to leave lovely feedback both online and in the guest book during 2015. I try hard to ensure that Ty Christian is presented well and comfortable for guests. Being a traditional Welsh Cottage it does have oodles of character and I'm glad so many guests appreciate its quirks and cosiness. I look forward to welcoming new guests and our returners in 2016.

This is such a lovely little cottage with a really helpful and thoughtful owner. It is rural but not isolated, lovely private garden and a real family home feel. Its not packed with technology or the latest gadgets but is just what we hoped it would be, an escape from the outside world! Storage heaters keep it warm all night and the woodburner is superb with lots of wood in stock. The area is idyllic, with lots of leaflets and walk details at the house. The local pub is either a longish walk (fine in the summer) or a very short drive away, and New Quay is only 10-15 mins drive away and is lovely. You can pick up the coastal path at the far end of the village (through Church yard) where there is the most incredible cove to explore. About 4 miles along the path you get to New Quay, well worth the walk. We loved the location and the cottage and wanted to stay longer. It has everything you need for a comfy, relaxed stay and would love to go again.
