Description

In glorious rural surroundings, pet friendly cottage ideal for larger groups, with footpath across miles of open countryside close by.

This attractive detached house set in the owner’s grounds provide spacious holiday accommodation situated at the end of a mile-long lane in glorious rural surroundings. Pet friendly and offering a plethora of walks on the doorstep, the cottage offers good quality linen and towels and a superb self catering base. There is a public footpath leading off the owner’s drive providing miles of walks across open countryside. A trip to picturesque Rye enables visitors to sample local foods at the Wednesday morning farmers market which is held at Strand Quay. By taking a stroll along the cobbled streets, there is also the chance to buy a memento from one of the many independently-owned shops and boutiques, art galleries and potteries - or even start Christmas shopping from the wide selection of goods available! Also worth a visit are Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands and Camber Castle – this area of saltmarsh protects some very special wildlife, and footpaths lead to four birdwatching hides. The picturesque market town of Battle makes for an enjoyable day out, as well as Hastings, the Sealife Centre and Pevensey Castle (where the Romans invaded). The area is also well known for its local vineyards including Chapel Down and Sedlescombe. A trip to Tenterden - often referred to as the Jewel of the Weald - is an alternative and, for garden lovers, Sissinghurst (NT) is not to be missed. Further National Trust places to visit include Smallhythe Place, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle. Day trips to France are possible with the Channel Tunnel a mere 30-minute drive. An excellent sky venue for astrology, photography, or just wishing on a star. Shops 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

We had a great week at Thornsdale. Had problem with internet connection in house but could connect in garden, not too clever in the rain.

Excellent stay, 3 adults and 4 teenagers. Plenty of room for everyone. Beach only a 10 minute drive and shops and resteraunts only a short drive as well. Rye was a lovely town to visit.

Lovely property with wonderful view across Romney Marsh. I would imagine that it is fantastic in the summer. Although the heating was on it was a bit chilly downstairs as there are no doors between the rooms. The open fire is delightful. The kitchen has everything you could need although there isn't any order in the cupboards! A good supply of board games, DVDs and CDs to keep us entertained. The beds were very comfortable with lovely crisp white linen. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thornsdale is a great house and we would definitely visit again. The owners were helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

During a very windy weekend in early February the Oast House was cosy and warm. The children loved the space, and enjoyed the pool and football tables, as well as the jigsaws provided in the house. The kitchen was very well equipped although some of the drawers needed sorting but this is probably due to tenants putting things back in the wrong place. The only small niggle was that the cold tap in the kitchen could do with a new washer, and the plumbing in the en suite bathroom in the roundell was incredibly noisy. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

We had a fantastic time. The place is beautifully decorated, in a great location and had everything we could have needed and more in terms of equipment and comfort. Arrangements for starting and ending our weekend, gaining access to the property etc was straightforward and low-key, exactly as we wanted it. I would highly recommend a stay here and I would love to go back sometime.

This is a really unique and lovely property for a holiday. We have stayed in many over recent years and this was definitely one of the best. The owner was very friendly and clearly cared that we were happy. The kitchen, living areas and main bedrooms were excellent and spacious with large fully enclosed garden and patio areas, ideal as we had a dog. The bathrooms were also a good size and well equipped. Some of the bedroom had the windows at floor level only so, presumably for safety reasons, could only be opened a fraction making them rather hot at night. It is worth noting that the driveway to the house is a long bumpy ride - fun and part of the remote charm but puts your car through its paces. Also, there are a lot of stairs in the property and some of the elderly less mobile members of our party found them tricky especially as the lighting in the property is not bright. The only two downsides were that as there was no handle on the (excellent) fridge and our short elderly grandparent could not reach the top to open it and although outside loungers were provided which was great, they did not provide any cushions so were not really usable unfortunately unless you were happy to lie on the plastic. These are only minor points in what was overall a really nice place to stay.

    Response from: administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your kind comments, the drive has now been repaired. New cushions have been provided for the sun beds. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay.

We had a lovey few days here with friends. The owner very kindly made the roomy garden secure for the dogs. The house was well equipped and comfortable. Very handy for Rye and a good local pub.
