Description

In glorious rural surroundings, pet friendly cottage ideal for larger groups, with footpath across miles of open countryside close by.

This attractive detached house set in the owner’s grounds provide spacious holiday accommodation situated at the end of a mile-long lane in glorious rural surroundings. Pet friendly and offering a plethora of walks on the doorstep, the cottage offers good quality linen and towels and a superb self catering base. There is a public footpath leading off the owner’s drive providing miles of walks across open countryside. A trip to picturesque Rye enables visitors to sample local foods at the Wednesday morning farmers market which is held at Strand Quay. By taking a stroll along the cobbled streets, there is also the chance to buy a memento from one of the many independently-owned shops and boutiques, art galleries and potteries - or even start Christmas shopping from the wide selection of goods available! Also worth a visit are Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands and Camber Castle – this area of saltmarsh protects some very special wildlife, and footpaths lead to four birdwatching hides. The picturesque market town of Battle makes for an enjoyable day out, as well as Hastings, the Sealife Centre and Pevensey Castle (where the Romans invaded). The area is also well known for its local vineyards including Chapel Down and Sedlescombe. A trip to Tenterden - often referred to as the Jewel of the Weald - is an alternative and, for garden lovers, Sissinghurst (NT) is not to be missed. Further National Trust places to visit include Smallhythe Place, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle. Day trips to France are possible with the Channel Tunnel a mere 30-minute drive. An excellent sky venue for astrology, photography, or just wishing on a star. Shops 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

The Oast house is in a beautiful location, is well equipped and clean. There is plenty of room for people to have their own space if they want and the games room was a particular hit. The only downside to our stay was the lack of internet connection. None of our devices could pick up a signal (and that was a lot of devices!). I think these days reliable wifi/internet is expected, especially if it is listed in the features. David was very helpful and quick to respond to our questions.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner- Thank-you for your kind comments. Although we have high speed internet provided by BT, unfortunately during your stay the service was not provided by them. I can confirm that this has now been repaired and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

A perfect break for two families. House was extremely comfortable and cozy. Great selection of games to amuse 4 teenagers and 2 younger ones too. Would definitely consider going back.

The cottage was ok but we all agreed that we have stayed in nicer properties within the same price bracket. In need of little tlc, especially the bathrooms, for example one of the bathrooms has very broken/cracked floor tiles and in another there was mould around the bath seal. The door of the bedroom downstairs does not shut properly as there is no latch.

    Response from:

Repsonse on behalf of the owner- Thank you for your feedback. Following your review we shall attend to the issues you have raised as necessary.

Once we drove up farm track (which could have been explained beforehand) we found the oast house outstanding, in a beautiful quiet setting. The whole experience was magical. We are a close family anyway and had a very relaxing and wonderful time, and caught up with each other's gossip. The two children we took, loved the horse paddock and made friends with the local children who loved the horses and played safely. And for once didn't need entertaining, no tablets the whole weekend! We would go back in a heartbeat. All equipment and games inside and out was just as advertised. 10 out ten.

We had a lovely stay at the Oasthouse. The property was large enough for our party, which consisted of 8 adults and 2 infants. The kitchen was well equipped ( we had a professional chef for one of the nights) some equipment was a little tired, and the oven could have done with a deep clean, but overall good. The outside of the property was very relaxing, but again could have done with a bit of maintenance. Most of the bedrooms were good, but one was rather dark, and downstairs not so good, so could be a problem if you all want similar standard rooms. Lots to do in the area, if you don't mind a short drive.

    Response from:

Response from the Owner; Thank you for your feedback, glad you enjoyed yourselves. We have reviewed kitchen equipment, renewed and increased where necessary. We are pleased that your professional chef had all required utensils. The outside of the property is in a rustic setting we do not over- manicure the external space for that reason, we are glad you found it relaxing.

We had a lovely stay for the family get together. The only suggestion i would make is a review of the kitchen utensils as there are a few gaps. Its a beautiful house and great location - i would definetly recommend staying here.

We visited as an extended family of ten for my husbands 40th birthday and had such a lovely stay. With 4 children between the ages of 10 and 15 in our party the games room and surrounding grounds were a huge plus and the whole family enjoyed games of 'killer pool' which was great fun if a little competitive! The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Personally I loved the quirkiness of the oast House split across several levels and we were fortunate enough to stay in the master bedroom in the round oast. I had the best nights sleep I've had in years so can't understand the complaints about the beds but each to there own I suppose. We found everything we needed in the kitchen including a large jug and hand blender for perfect pancakes. Granted the towels were rough but I appreciated that they were good quality Christy towels and it was nothing 10 mins in the tumble dryer didn't fix. If you are looking for a modern luxuriously fitted out properly you may be disappointed but if like us you were hoping for a clean, well thought out unusual property located in a beautiful part of Kent then give Thornsdale Oast a try. Hopefully we will be back. Matt & Family

A superb place to stay, close to Rye , Camber and Winchelsea beach. We had a lovely family gathering, with many happy memories. A homely oast house, with clean, comfortable beds and great showers. The games room , board games and sky TV also helped us to get the most out of this wonderful holiday.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you so much, glad you had a good time.
