Pet friendly and offering a plethora of walks on the doorstep, the cottage offers good quality linen and towels and a superb self catering base. There is a public footpath leading off the owner’s drive providing miles of walks across open countryside. A trip to picturesque Rye enables visitors to sample local foods at the Wednesday morning farmers market which is held at Strand Quay. By taking a stroll along the cobbled streets, there is also the chance to buy a memento from one of the many independently-owned shops and boutiques, art galleries and potteries - or even start Christmas shopping from the wide selection of goods available! Also worth a visit are Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands and Camber Castle – this area of saltmarsh protects some very special wildlife, and footpaths lead to four birdwatching hides. The picturesque market town of Battle makes for an enjoyable day out, as well as Hastings, the Sealife Centre and Pevensey Castle (where the Romans invaded). The area is also well known for its local vineyards including Chapel Down and Sedlescombe. A trip to Tenterden - often referred to as the Jewel of the Weald - is an alternative and, for garden lovers, Sissinghurst (NT) is not to be missed. Further National Trust places to visit include Smallhythe Place, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle. Day trips to France are possible with the Channel Tunnel a mere 30-minute drive. This is a really unique and lovely property for a holiday. We have stayed in many over recent years and this was definitely one of the best. The owner was very friendly and clearly cared that we were happy. The kitchen, living areas and main bedrooms were excellent and spacious with large fully enclosed garden and patio areas, ideal as we had a dog. The bathrooms were also a good size and well equipped. Some of the bedroom had the windows at floor level only so, presumably for safety reasons, could only be opened a fraction making them rather hot at night. It is worth noting that the driveway to the house is a long bumpy ride - fun and part of the remote charm but puts your car through its paces. Also, there are a lot of stairs in the property and some of the elderly less mobile members of our party found them tricky especially as the lighting in the property is not bright. The only two downsides were that as there was no handle on the (excellent) fridge and our short elderly grandparent could not reach the top to open it and although outside loungers were provided which was great, they did not provide any cushions so were not really usable unfortunately unless you were happy to lie on the plastic. These are only minor points in what was overall a really nice place to stay.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your kind comments, the drive has now been repaired. New cushions have been provided for the sun beds. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay.

We all had a great holiday, but location lets it down, a car is absolutely essential as it is along a very winding and uneven dirt track come makeshift road. To our view it was not dog safe as there was no fencing around the property.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Response on behalf of the Owner; We are extremely pleased you had a good holiday. As per the description on the website, the property is approximately one mile down the properly constructed, engineered road way. The road has a loose surface for two reasons, to comply and fit in with the area of outstanding natural beauty and for safety to regulate the speed that people travel along it, as children and fellow guests may be enjoying their walk along there. The garden can be enclosed but most visitors keep their pets under control so they do not need to close the gates.

We rented this lovely house for a 'party' to celebrate a 60th birthday. It was perfect. Lovely welcoming warm house which embraces you in like an old friend. The dining room is perfect and could hold up to 14 seated at dinner. Large kitchen perfect for cooking/catering for a large group. There is a games room (full sized pool and football tables) which was much used! Lots of games in the drawers. TV in kitchen as well as drawing room. Log fire. Honestly I don't know where to stop praising this wonderful house. Oh yes, comfortable beds too! The owner is friendly and helpful. Very informal and accomodating. Plenty of parking space.
