At the very outset I have to state that we thought Thornhill the best cottage we have ever stayed in. It was welcoming, comfortable and warm, and the views are stunning. We did not get much use out of the conservatory but one imagines that it would be idyllic in the summer months. The owners, Roger and Babs, were very helpful and we must say an especial thanks for the offer of provisions and for being "dug out" on the day the snow came down: over and above, we thought! Being snowed in for a day was actually quite magical, and with the woodburner going we were snug and comfortable. The slip to a 9 for local amenities does not really reflect on the cottage, and in any case there was a garage and shop only about a mile away: just nothing near enough for an easy walk. In any case Monmouth is only some 4 miles distance and if one needs shops then that has all that one could want. We found so much to do in the area - National Trust, English Heritage and CADW properties, castles galore, Roman ruins, museums, nice towns and so on, and in fact more than it was possible to encompass in a week. Thornhill would certainly be a place to visit again in the future.

Had a lovely few days though had to leave early due to snowstorms forecast. Cottage was very cosy and the log burner was lovely. Beautiful position with stunning views. Very narrow roads and steep hill to get to cottage so needs a confident driver. Only downside was towels were small and getting old and several of the plates were chipped. Was well equipped though. Would definitely like to go back in better weather as think we picked worse week for a long time.

Lovely cottage which is well equipped, comfortable and very clean. It has beautiful views of the surrounding area and our children enjoyed the woods directly behind the cottage where we saw some wild deer. We would definitely recommend this cottage to others and hope to return ourselves. A very comfy and relaxing cottage with lots to do on your doorstep. Thanks to the owners for the lovely welcome pack.

Thornhill is a warm, cosy cottage set high up on a hill overlooking beautiful countryside. It is well equipped, traditional but with high spec kitchen and bathrooms. Perfect for that winter break in front of the woodburner. Plenty to see and do with Monmouth and Ross on Wye nearby. The owners are so friendly and just 200 yards away if you needed anything (which we didn't) as they have thought of everything. The cottage was perfect!

Had a lovely time. Direct access to the forest on doorstep. Wonderful conservatory really 'makes' the cottage with its open expansive views. Wonderful and helpful hosts (and neighbours!). We stayed in winter and got a snow dumping for a couple of days which was great followed by fine weather so we got the best of both worlds. The cottage was cosy with plenty of fire wood. Special memories have been made at this place.

This is a lovely property with fabulous views. It sits at the end of a no through road with only the friendly and helpful owners for neighbours a few hundred yards down the hill. Given it's position, all amenities are a short drive away, but that suited us fine. You can roam around all the land behind the house - we saw long-horned cattle and deer. The lounge might be a bit of a squeeze for 6 people as there is only the L shaped sofa you can see in the picture for 3 or 4 people, and a poof, but the conservatory is heated and has seating for 4 as well as another television. Beds comfy and everything spotless. Even though it was a chilly November week, we were warm and cosy without lighting the wood fire. We've never revisited a cottage before, but would love to come back here.

The perfect mini break, probably the most well-equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. Beautiful location and within easy reach of Ross on Wye. Would highly recommend.

Lovely cottage with a fantastic view. Cosy, comfortable and very well suited to our family of five including two pensioners, a young couple and a 10 year old grandson. The walk in the woods behind the cottage produced sightings of deer, much to the delight of everyone. The cottage is so quiet and peaceful; and breakfast and a later barbecue on the patio were much enjoyed by all. A great location for visiting nearby places of interest which included Eastnor Pottery at Ledbury (enjoyed by all as we made and decorated our own pots - marvellous happy memories amid constant laughter from our family at out rather good first attempts/staff are friendly and very helpful), the nearby Butterfly Farm at Symmonds Yat which also has crazy golf, a brilliant maze and a laser game (good value for the total package) and visits to Monmouth and Ross on Wye. The nine hole golf course at Newant was perfect for the first visit to a golf course by our grandson who had only ever used the practice golf facilities elsewhere before and extremely good value for money. The river trip at Symmonds Yat and the walk to the top was also enjoyed by the younger members of the family. The owners were extremely helpful and very friendly and we all enjoyed our stay enormously. The cottage was exactly what we needed including WiFi and two showers/loos - absolutely imperative for a larger family including "oldies"! We all agreed we would be delighted to return.

Very nice house, beautiful view, everything you need to spend 2 weeks or more. Roger and his wife were charming and very helpful. The only point I would make is the staircase is fairly steep and quite narrow, care has to be taken , especially for the elderly, of which we were four!. Many thanks for a great holiday.

Very friendly hosts, could not have been more helpful. Charming cottage with lovely views. Fully equipped with everything we could want. Stairs rather steep, but not too difficult for us 70 year olds. Easy to travel to all the local attractions of Symonds Yat, Monmouth, Ross, Tintern Abbey and many others.
