Tranquil rolling countryside surrounds this farmhouse which has the advantage of ten en-suite bedrooms and a large sun room.

High in the hamlet of Riber in the shadow of the castle just outside Matlock and surrounded by tranquil rolling countryside, The Stables is situated in the grounds of the privately-owned Riber Hall. This destination is offered for adults and children over twelve years old, and is inclusive of a beautiful garden with heated furnished terrace. There are ten en-suite bedrooms of 17 to 40 square metres, equipped with Sony LCD TVs, dining areas and micro kitchens with combination microwave oven, fridge, kettle/toaster and Wedgwood china. For days out there is plenty to do and see. In the neighbouring village of Holloway is the former home of Florence Nightingale whilst down in the Derwent Valley at Cromford, the World Heritage Site boasts the world’s first water-powered cotton-spinning factories, built by Sir Richard Arkwright and Jedediah Strutt. Just under four miles is the delightful town of Matlock Bath boasting smart riverside cafés and bars slotted in between more traditional pubs, restaurants, tea shops, ice-cream parlours and plenty of restaurants. Here visitors can also sample a ride to The Heights of Abraham by cable car and admire the views of ‘Little Switzerland’ as Byron once described this area. For the more inquisitive visit the Mining Museum for a fascinating look into the area’s past. Shop 2 miles, pub 11/2 miles.

We had a splendid break in Derbyshire, in spite of the accommodation. There was rain coming through the conservatory roof on to the already uncomfortable seating. The kitchen/dining area was unsuitable for a group of twenty people. No toilet facilities in the communal part of the building meant going out in the pouring rain to get to our rooms when they were needed! The bedrooms were warm, clean and comfortable but frankly we felt that money would be better spent on adequate lighting than on teddy bears! We are NOT a group which complains unnecessarily but this was by far the most expensive house we have ever booked ( half as much again as the lovely house near Sedbergh last year. It quite simply wasn't worth the money. I imagine that in a dry Summer, when the conservatory could be opened on to the very lovely garden area, it would be a pleasant place to stay but not in the Autumn or Winter months. Very disappointed.

The bedrooms rooms were lovely and very clean. Our disappointment was with the equipment in the kitchen/dinning area. The fridge was large but had most of the shelves missing which made food storage difficult. We were only a party of 11 and the accommodations capacity is 20, we found the dinning area quite a squeeze and dark. We would have struggled if we had been staying for a longer period. I had shower gel in my shower which I didn't expect but no soap to wash my hands. Also when we went to get ready to go out in the evening none of us had hot water, those with a bath boiled kettles but those of us with only a shower had to have a cold one. Overall we did enjoy our stay the accommodation is in a lovely setting

I wanted a place big enough for 20 people to stay in with a cottage feel and enough space for everyone to eat together and relax together. This place was PERFECT! It had everything I wanted and more! A lovely garden for a picnic during the day and close to country pubs and activity places too. Had a wonderful time there with friends for my hen do with a difference! I would definitely visit again!!!

We booked all the 10 studio apartments for a family birthday party. The rooms have lots of character, are well equipped and very clean. However, we did not find the communal area suitable for any kind of gathering. The steep steps which are advertised are uneven and not safe to use. Access via the lawn is better but a proper pathway is needed. There are no bathroom facilities in the communal area so you have to use the steps backwards and forwards to your room. The studios are in a beautiful location and ideal for ramblers.
