We had a great week at The Smithy, we were made to feel very welcome by Sally & Christopher the owners who are a fountain of knowledge on places to visit and eat. regrettably the English weather stopped us using the garden which while a short walk from the property looked very pleasant, at the time of our stay there was little mobile phone signal in the area but this may improve when a new mast is constructed, the owners provide seating outside their house to allow you to use their broadband. The week passed very quickly and were sad to leave .

Just returned from a lovely stay at Sally and Christopher's lovely cosy Dartmoor retreat. The cottage is situated on the edge of Dartmoor and is ideal for visiting many of the wonderful places around Devon. It is so quiet at night we have slept so well and despite lots of walking have come home so relaxed. The cottage and pubs and restaurants are all dog friendly and very welcoming. Sally and Christopher couldn't have made us more welcome. Would recommend the Smithy to anyone lovely stay.

We went to get a peaceful break and found this on the internet. The owner Sally and Chris were extremely hospitable and welcoming. Really beautiful gardens and 2 acre wood. Stunning views and access to the Dartmoor for walks with our dog. Could not rate it higher. We are wanting to return as soon as we can. We would recommend this to anyone.

The smithy is an exceptionally lovely cottage , right on the edge of the moors. It's cosy and has everything you need. By far the best thing about the smithy however is the owners Sally and Chris, who go out of their way to be friendly helpful and welcoming. We had a great stay and can't wait to go back!

Great little cottage in a remote location - perfect. The owners are also really friendly and cream tea waiting for you on arrival was the icing on the cake.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Smithy. The cottage is located in a very small country village on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park. It has a small woods and open fields nearby and there is a car parking area and a nice garden at the owners' residence two doors away. The property is a short drive to a lovely wooded gorge (Lydford Gorge) and waterfall which is close to the start of a very nice off-road bituminised bike track (The Granite Way) that runs through surrounding countryside to the town of Okehampton. The cottage is situated not far from the border of Cornwall, which made it easy for us to visit the Eden Project and the pretty village of Port Isaac (where the TV series "Doc Martin" is filmed). The owners of the cottage, Sally and Christopher, were very hospitable and friendly. When we arrived, we were provided with cream tea and flowers which we appreciated very much. Although the property itself does not have Wi-Fi for sending emails etc, we were able to úse Wi-Fi when we were near the owners' residence. We both felt that we could have spent much longer than a week at The Smithy because there was a lot that we didn't have a chance to do and see in this lovely part of Devon. We would certainly stay at The Smithy again if we made any further trips to this area.

Really lovely welcoming people. Beautiful secluded location. Wonderful peaceful base for our holiday. Only thing I would say is that we couldn't get signal for Wifi or mobile reception in cottage but you can walk down the lane to the moor for mobile reception and Sally &Christopher welcome you to use their Wifi if you need to.

We enjoyed our stay, which was all too brief. The cottage is well laid out and has most things you might need. Ideally situated for walking, my only comment would be that I'd prefer not to have to drive to a pub.

Admittedly we thought that the property was at the end of a lane so wouldn't really be any through traffic so thought being right on the lane would be o.k. to sit outside relaxedly. Sadly even though a nice location the view from the window was a hedge. Was only a few minutes walk from the moor which was lovely.
