Lovely cosy cottage down a very quiet single tract lane. Very welcoming owners, just 40 yds up the lane who are there if you need them but not intrusive. There isn't a garden attached to the Smithy but you are allowed to use the owner's garden & sit by their pond, with good views over the moors. They also have a field and a wooded area which you are allowed to use which was a nice bonus. Parking is beside the owner's property which is fine but you can park in a small layby opposite the Smithy just to unload cases etc. Good Wi-Fi but only mob phone reception for O2 users outside the cottage. Pay phone in village.

Perfect spot if you're after a nice quiet relaxing holiday.Amenities just a couple of miles down the road.Beautiful location for walks. We had a lovely walk on the moors and climbed up to the top where the views were amazing. We were in the company of lots of ponies.Climbed up the hill to see Brentor church which again had good views from the top.Walk into the village of Brentor and you'll come across the "old railway station"that some-one has bought and now living in.Sally and Christopher are a lovely friendly couple. The only problem we encountered was that there was no phone signal or wi-fi.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Smithy. The owner, Christopher, was very welcoming and helpful and gave us a tour of the lovely garden with lots of useful information and tips of what to see and where to go - Chris and Sally also provided us with a cream tea on arrival which was a really nice touch. The location is perfect for getting onto the moor with only a short walk down a picturesque lane. The accommodation is small but perfectly appointed and we felt really at home in it. Thank you!

Sally and Christopher were such lovely people, friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was quaint, homely, spotlessly clean and in an ideal location for the moors. Sally & Chris's garden is beautiful to relax in to take in the view of the moors. We enjoyed a wonderfully, restful time at the cottage experiencing beautiful weather. The cottage's location enabled us to visit Port Issac(where Doc Martin is), The Eden Project, Newquay, Torquay, Padstow, Plymouth as well as some beautiful hidden gems within the area such as small hamlets and villages. Would definitely recommend it.

We had a great week at The Smithy, we were made to feel very welcome by Sally & Christopher the owners who are a fountain of knowledge on places to visit and eat. regrettably the English weather stopped us using the garden which while a short walk from the property looked very pleasant, at the time of our stay there was little mobile phone signal in the area but this may improve when a new mast is constructed, the owners provide seating outside their house to allow you to use their broadband. The week passed very quickly and were sad to leave .

Just returned from a lovely stay at Sally and Christopher's lovely cosy Dartmoor retreat. The cottage is situated on the edge of Dartmoor and is ideal for visiting many of the wonderful places around Devon. It is so quiet at night we have slept so well and despite lots of walking have come home so relaxed. The cottage and pubs and restaurants are all dog friendly and very welcoming. Sally and Christopher couldn't have made us more welcome. Would recommend the Smithy to anyone lovely stay.

We went to get a peaceful break and found this on the internet. The owner Sally and Chris were extremely hospitable and welcoming. Really beautiful gardens and 2 acre wood. Stunning views and access to the Dartmoor for walks with our dog. Could not rate it higher. We are wanting to return as soon as we can. We would recommend this to anyone.
