Great Place to stay but it was very hot weather and no fans provided. Microwave is in bottom cupboard of Central island so have to get on knees to operate it, cery strange place to put it. Owners very welcoming and beds are so comfortable. We enjoyed our stay as also great views over fields and city lights.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for taking time to leave us your comments. It was a bit of a heat wave during your visit! We will provide a couple of fans as suggested. I doubt they will get much use - but, lets hope. The microwave is only stored in the bottom cupboard - it can easily be moved on to a kitchen work surface if required by guests during visits. We will update the Information pack in the Cottage. Again, thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again.

Great stay, everything you could wish for is provided. The yard is also great for young children to play as it is secure when the gate is closed.

Yes it gets good reviews, 'gold standard' in some cases It's in good location, yes it's got a cracking view over the Mersey (and Ellesmere Port!). It was originally refurbished to quite a good standard. Wi-fi was quite good. There's no restriction on the central heating and a good supply of wood for the fire and yes the owner seems a nice guy and responds quickly to problems....however. It doesn't deserve the consistently high reviews, there are many shortcomings, mainly down to poor housekeeping and maintenance. The black sludge that gathers at the bottom of the access steps, very poor. Draining the water off the entire roof into the yard and then into a sump just where you have to walk through is a big problem in wet weather.....little wonder there's a notice asking that 'outdoor' shoes not be worn in the property. The place could be so much better with a little 'up-keep', the table top ice box needs to be replaced with a proper freezer, the flicker on the TV needs sorting, the windows need cleaning. The bottle / milk tray on the fridge door is broken. Extractors in the bathrooms need cleaning out so they actually extract. The creaky shower tray in the middle bathroom needs looking at. The windows need cleaning properly. The drinking glass inventory needs sorting, there should be at least enough wine glasses and tumblers for 6. There was a broken toilet seat too, the owner replaced it during our stay. Another problem that can't just have been during our stay was the wasps, given the number of dead wasps in the cottage (housekeeping?) it seems to be an ongoing problem. Wasps constantly probe the door and windows trying to find a way in, and they do, big ones too! Would we return, no. That said, The Old Stables cottage is typical of many such rentals, no one seems to check that all is OK. I doubt many owners clean their properties themselves and thus don't notice problems.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. The Old Stables receives consistently very good reviews because it deserves it. We as Owners go out of our way to ensure that guests enjoy their stay in excellent accommodation and fabulous surroundings. We maintain the property to a high standard for our guests - including keeping its no smoking status which unfortunately these guests did not adhere to. We were very disappointed at their objection to us bringing our little Shetland ponies across the drive occasionally - most of our guests love seeing them as they are adorable and appreciate the cottage is part of a farm. Also, being part of a farm - we do from time to time in bad weather suffer from run off from the top field. We have increased the number of times the bottom steps are swept / cleaned and now we also replace the mats for each changeover. We do not clean the property ourselves - but employ a Professional cleaning company. We have passed on the guests comments - but feel they are unjustified. However, we have amended our cleaning schedule appropriately. The wasps must of been a one off - we have checked the property several times and there is no evidence of any - nor any nests. We will be keeping an eye out for anything similar.

The Old Stables was a lovely base for exploring Chester, north Cheshire and include a day trip to Liverpool, which has lots to see. The barn conversion is above the old stable so is accessed by stone steps; not suitable if disabled. The only complaint is that the area at the base of the steps has muddy slime form water daring from the sloped drive. This is very dangerous, as well as messy, and needs sorting. There are some low beams so beware if you are over 6 foot! The large communal kitchen , diner, sitting room was lovely, especially the large wooden family table; all well equipped. The bedrooms were all comfortable and the 2 bathrooms had good showers and were adequate. We had an excellent late Sunday lunch at the Hornsbill at Helsby about a mile away down Primrose Lane. Visiting Chester we recommend parking near the Roman Amphitheatre remains and walking clockwise around the old town wall, exiting at the Cathedral, whose cloisters featured in Harry Potter films. Finish by visiting the old shopping area with the Chester Rows and have afternoon tea. We also went to the Anderton Canal lift, Beeston Castle and, as we had a NZ friend with us, we had a day out in North Wales, visiting Caernarfon Castle, Aber Falls and finished with fish & chips at Llandudno sea front. We will be back to go to the Delamere Forest, Erdigg House and the other places we missed.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. It is unfortunate that we had a flash flood just prior to your visit - resulting in some mud at the bottom of the steps. This is quite unusual - but we have added this to our list of Inspection Points at changeover just in case it happens again. We would happily of cleared this at the time if you felt it necessary and had requested it. We are pleased to know that you enjoyed your visit and made the most of some of the many local attractions and amenities! We look forward to welcoming you back in the future
