This place should not be being listed in the state it was in when me and my new husband went there for what was supposed to be our honeymoon break. The smell of damp assaults you the moment you step into the property. There was mold growing on the curtain, the bathroom walls and other spots around the place, the damp is obvious throughout. The smell is awful. All our clothes stank of damp and needed washing after we left whether we had worn them or not. The place is listed as having a DVD player, but as per reviews below, there is no link cable. It is clear the owner has known about this for a very long time and done nothing to rectify it. We bought a link cable, and it turned out the DVD player and TV set itself are incompatible. So this is a mis-sell as there essentially is no DVD player as it cannot be used with the TV provided. The springs on the bed dig into your body - my husband had round bruises all over his body from our stay. It ruined our honeymoon, which was spent attempting to move out of this sub-standard promptly. My husband said he has stayed in youth hostels that were of better quality. When we asked the owner if there was wifi, standard in most properties of this price, he was laughed at. The owner was rude to my husband and also claimed that the last people to stay in the place had stolen the cable to the DVD player. When we look at the reviews, this doesn't add up. She denied the damp, but it is very, very much there and feels bizarre that she won't just get it sorted. The whole place just feels tired, when we arrived there was just 1 toilet roll for the week, no tea or coffee whatsoever, no soap beside any of the sinks. These are minor things, but combined with the awful damp and the DVD player broken, the nasty mattress, it all speaks of an owner who doesn't care about the holiday makers coming to stay. It severely needs wifi as the signal there is awful and as it is remote, you want to be able to research opening hours for restaurants and attractions before you venture out in the car. Isn't wifi pretty standard in 2016? I am not writing this out of bitterness for my bad week, I genuinely don't want other people to book and have their holiday ruined as ours was. I feel pretty shocked it is still being listed as it needs serious work before it should be let to holiday makers again.

This is a lovely property very much spoilt by the damp particularly in the bedroom. It is also well equipped and especially useful was the dehumidifier which we had everyday in the daytime and it extracted over 5 litres of water. It was such a pity our holiday was spoilt by the dampness because the Nook is otherwise excellent with plenty of character and beautiful views of the sea. What made the stay worse was that I'd checked with the owner before we went and was assured the damp problem had been resolved

I was concerned by the comments by Val on 28/5 so telephoned the owner for confirmation that the damp problem had been solved. I was told that it had been addressed. This was not the case, however, as we realized as soon as we walked in. The property smelled strongly of damp and there was damp around the front door and on the lounge walls, ceiling and in most of the cupboards. We used the de-humidifier and had to empty it twice a day. We opened windows whenever we were in but couldn't leave them open at night or when we were out as this would have caused a security problem as they couldn't be locked open. We had to telephone the owner for instructions on how to turn on the TV, the manufacturer's instructions were not clear. Maybe a printed laminated simple instruction sheet would be helpful for future guests. We were unable to use the DVD player as the lead to connect the TV is still missing. The property is well decorated, furnished and equipped. Just a shame that our holiday was spoilt by the awful damp smell every day. Note to future guests - take a spare toilet roll as only one provided.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. The issue with damp is being addressed; we have done work on the building to eliminate the problem and will do more as necessary. The windows can be locked open. We do not supply toilet paper as the property is self-catering, but we always make sure there is some on arrival.

Directions to the cottage were comprehensive and the location is very quiet. We were disappointed that we had to use the car as it was unsafe to walk along the roads near the cottage. As soon as we entered the cottage the smell of damp met us, this lingered throughout our stay, even after we had opened the windows and used the noisey extract fans. Running the dehumidifier did remove some of the condensation, however, this was also noisey interrupting listening to the TV. We took with us some DVDs to watch in the evenings, however, the cable between the TV and the DVD player was missing, further investigation showed incompatibility and we had to buy a new player and link cable to allow us to watch our DVDs. We had little rain during our stay yet we had condensation along the floor immediately adjacent the wall to the rear of the TV and a slug was seen on the same wall. The bathroom also showed patches of mold and there is staining on the walls and ceiling in all areas, a sure sign of an ongoing dampness issue. Overall the property is looking 'tired' and with the dampness issue would benefit from refurbishment..

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. The Nook has been recently decorated on the outside of the building. Extensive work has been undertaken, including all the windows and door have been repointed, as well as the wall up the stairs adjacent to the front door. All round the bottom floor level has been sealed - hopefully this will solve the damp problem. Considering the weather has been extremely damp this summer, and the renovated old building is grade II listed, we can only hope this problem is solved.

We had a wonderful week in the area with Clovelley just 10 minutes down the road and some wonderful scenic locations a short distance away from the cottage. The cottage was just perfect for our needs, we settled in straight away. Everything was included in the cottage to satisfy our needs which gave us a most comfortable stay. Just perfect.
