Description

Explore Shropshire from this idyllic location, and visit the ever popular Ironbridge Gorge and museums, easily accessible from the property.

This stunning detached holiday lodge is located in a superb position, on the same site as the largest waterwheel powering a corn mill, still working in England today and virtually unaltered since the 18th century - still in ownership of the same family for over 250 years. Set in the idyllic Shropshire countryside, deep in a wooded valley, crossed by the 19th-century viaduct, this is one of Shropshire’s finest locations. Visitors to the area are a 1-mile walk from the town centre, where you will find High Town and Low Town, plus the famous cliff railway. Other attractions nearby include Rays farm, Cosford Museum, Dudmaston Hall NT and the ever popular Ironbridge gorge and museums. There are good road links to the rest of south Shropshire including Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury, where you can enjoy anything from castles, festivals, and horse racing to the events at Theatre Severn. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room. Kitchen. Separate toilet. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft) with en-suite bathroom with bath, shower attachment and toilet, 1 twin with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Gas central heating (underfloor on ground floor), electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. iPod dock. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Enclosed garden with patio and furniture. Portable barbecue. Ample parking. No smoking. NB: Stream in grounds.

Lovely cottage in a quiet secluded position but within easy reach (we walked it on the Saturday for the Market) of Bridgenorth and all its amenities. It is a five minute walk up to the Swann Inn which serves very nice food and the staff there are nice and friendly. (beware there is no footpath on the road to the pub but in the lighter summer months I am sure this would not be an issue.) Excellent views of the countryside, Daniels Mill and the Viaduct, had the steam trains been running we would have been in our element. The cottage has everything you could need (more towels would have been a plus but this is not a criticism) and in the summer months there is a good sized patio area perfect for dining al fresco. Anne was always on hand and very helpful. Overall we had a wonderful weekend (a party of 2 couples 50ish) and would not hesitate to return. (especially when the choo choo trains are running)

We had a lovely warm welcome with Christmas decorations and soup in the fridge to save us from going straight out. The cottage is well thought out and has everything you could need.

We stayed in The Hurstings for 3 nights. It was a lovely cottage in a beautiful location by a watermill. It was fully equipped and very comfortable. The owner was very helpful and welcoming; when my elderly mother found she had left behind her hearing aid, the owner sent them back to us the same day. Overall a wonderful experience.

A nice cottage and a lovely location - but 6'2'' and sloping bathroom ceilings do not go well together.

Lovely cottage. Excellent setting with the viaduct and old mill only yards away. Very friendly owner and welcome pack provided. The only downside was the shower door which was difficult to close and leaked! Would visit again.

+ The location is excellent. The property was clean, modern and well equipped. We loved watching the trains go by and enjoyed the riverside walk into Bridgnorth, which is a beautiful town. - We would have given 10 out of 10 in all categories, but we have marked down for both comfort and value for money because we had no control over the heating. It was pre-set at certain times, but not long enough for us to be comfortable, especially in the mornings and evenings. The property is in a valley and doesn't get a lot of sun and we found the bedrooms and bathrooms chilly. We did mention this to the owner but were just told to put the downstairs electric heater on. We would definitely like to stay at this property again, but only if control of the heating is passed back to guests.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; I do apologise if my response regarding the heating seemed unhelpful at the time. The automatic upstairs temperature has never been an issue at the Hurstings however, it seems a previous occupier had located the control and turned it off. Leaving the system on auto has always ensured a cosy environment so I will take steps to ensure this remains the case. The downstairs underfloor system had recently clicked to its summer settings. A remote control electric heater in the lounge provides backup for unexpected seasonal dips such as we saw in May. The property also has several rugs/throws. I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and am sorry you didn’t feel as cosy as both you, and I, would have liked.
