Description

A galleried bedroom and cosy seating area make The Dovecote a romantic hideaway for two, adjacent to the Oxford Canal.

Set in a sleepy hamlet of Thrupp, the Dovecote is the ideal romantic retreat for two. This pretty little detached property is situated in the grounds of a Manor House and lies adjacent to the 18th Century Oxford Canal, offering cozy and peaceful accommodation situated in a historic hamlet. Thrupp offers many relaxing walks along the canal towpath, or along the banks of the river Cherwell, which hosts an abundant of wildlife.
Thrupp has a public house called the Boat, with its open fires and beamed ceiling. Annie’s Tea Room, situated on the other side of the canal has a selection of homemade cakes and pastries to purchase.
A short walk or along the towpath or a short drive leads to the village of Kidlington, recognised as the largest village in England, has several supermarkets, post office, banks, chemists and various pubs and cafes. There is a regular bus service to Oxford from Kidlington along with a nearby Park and Ride service. There is a bus stop available on the main road, approximately 15 minutes’ walk from the cottage.
The M40 motorway is easily reached, connecting to either London or Birmingham within an hour, traffic dependent.
The property makes and ideal holiday base to visit the famous Oxford colleges or the historic market town of Woodstock home to Blenheim Palace. Or explore the Cotswolds and Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon. Shops 2 miles, pubs ¼ mile.

The cottage was lovely but would have benefitted from the heating being put on some days before our arrival. There were some finer touches I would recommend which I fed back to the owners. It was quite noisy due to location - near a railway line and an airport but we didn't mind that. Good location for pubs and bus stop for Oxford.

The Dovecote is in a wonderful position on the banks of the Oxford canal. Nearby is the excellent Annie's Tea room and the Boat pub.

Very warm and cosy, despite the noisy heating pump. Kitchen/diner was adequate but the bedroom/sittingroom was uncomfortable and cramped. The bucket seats were very uncomfortable. the bed was comfortable, but was not the Fourposter in the photograph and description. A very good location, ideal for Oxford and the nearby stately homes and Cotswold towns. being by the canal would be particularly pretty in the summer, but without a view from the property, a bit limited. We are still awaiting the return of our security/damage cheque two weeks on!

Lovely place to stay. The cooker was a puzzle to work out and in the end we didn't use it. The bedroom was lovely and the whole cottage was adorable. However if we had stayed longer than the 2 days I would have wanted a sofa but the size doesn't allow that.

The cottage was slightly different to how it was described when booking the property but we didn't let it affect our stay. The cottage was clean, warm and cosy and it had all amenities we could wish for. The location was lovely and the locals were friendly. I will definitely be recommending The Dovecote to friends and family

A good location by the canal and The Boat pub was very friendly and the food was very good. A little bit smaller than we were expecting but still a good cottage.

Great location! The Dovecote was fine for a short stay. It was quite cramped for two people. I enjoyed my stay there but found the building could get quite cold. Two electric fires had been provided so I think the problem was known about. It only had windows facing north.
