I visited Tan with my extended family for our annual get together and it served us very well indeed. It is in a fabulous location with stunning views over Ullswater. The only minor point is that you cannot walk down to the lake from the property as access is not permitted. The are really no walks you can do safely from the property as the roads have no footpaths and are hazardous to walk along. As a result we drove everyday which was disappointing. Parking at the property is tight and could be improved by extending the gateway to the drive by removing part of the hedge. All this said, we all had a wonderful time at Tan. The location was so good that my elderly mum who can't get around like she used to, enjoyed staying in and looking at the view. The more active of us found lots of lovely walks nearby and the village of Glen Ridding is a lovely place to visit. I was feeling stressed before the hols, but felt really chilled after our break. Definitely recommend.

We had a great week in Tan over new years. The house is done up well and warmed up quickly with the central heating, plus there was some wood and kindling left for us (and we bought more in Penrith). The beds and sofas are very comfy, especially the white sofa! The kitchen is well equipped - but the knives could do with sharpening (and the sharpener is blunt). On new years day we woke to find one of the toilets blocked and the house didn't have a plunger, but it does now! Views of the lakes and surrounding hills are excellent to wake up to, there isn't a foot path directly accessible at the house but we only had to drive/walk a few miles to get to some awesome walks. We really liked the long open kitchen/dining/living room, and even managed to clear a dance floor for new years eve! We only really used the garden to cool drinks in but I bet it's great in summer. I'd highly recommend this cottage and would return.
