Customers’ Choice Award 2018
With its own private hot tub, Sunflower Cottage is ideal for exploring York, the surrounding villages and the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Sunflower Cottage is a stylish and contemporary single-storey detached property which has been built to a high specification and boasts a five seater hot tub on the decking. The owners live on site and are on hand should you need advice or assistance during your stay. Strensall is a charming village on the River Foss with a wide range of facilities including three pubs, a choice of grocery stores, post office, takeaway and a fish and chip shop. On the doorstep is York Golf Club, and Strensall Common, a huge conservation area maintained by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is popular with birdwatchers.
Regular buses run from the village into the centre of the ancient walled city of York, 7 miles. Steeped in history and brimming with attractions, York appeals to all ages throughout the whole year. Visit the magnificent minster, the Jorvik Centre and the Railway Museum, browse the art galleries and stroll along the cobbled streets and city walls. There are numerous restaurants, tea shops and an abundance of inns serving real ale. Enjoy a day at the races, take a river boat trip or watch the talented street entertainers.
The surrounding area has much to offer too, with stately homes at Castle Howard and Beningbrough Hall, quaint market towns at Easingwold and Helmsley, and a short drive leads to the beautiful North York Moors where the famous steam train departs from Pickering and transports visitors through stunning scenery to the fishing port of Whitby.
The coastal towns of Scarborough and Filey are also easily accessible, and after fun-filled days of sight-seeing, visitors can return to the comfort of this delightful holiday home and the relaxing bubbles of the hot tub! Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Amazing cottage. Ellie and Tony couldn’t have been any lovelier! To the point they even delivered cheese to us on a Saturday night as we couldn’t get to the shop! Can’t compliment the place enough. Perfectly equipped with everything you could need. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks Ellie and Tony :-)

We stayed at Sunflower Cottage for a week, commencing 17th February. We had a thoroughly amazing time and the owners were very helpful. The cottage was superbly equipped, with everything we could possibly need. The location is fantastic, with local amenities nearby and we visited the Ship Inn for great food. We had some fab days out in York, Scarborough and Eden Camp and the hot tub went down a treat too!! We would highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay.

I booked the cottage for a surprise 50th birthday gift for my husband. Our two teenagers stayed too. The accommodation was stunning, very modern, clean and comfortable. The owners lived on site and were so welcoming and friendly. We felt totally at home. Elllie had even put up some banners and balloons for my husband - very thoughtful. The complimentary hamper was a lovely touch and of course the hot tub the jewel in the crown. We had a lovely stay and visited a few local attractions such as the Designer outlet which are within close proximity. We had an issue with the hot water but no sooner had we contacted the owners, Tony was on hand and the issue was fixed. Nothing was too much trouble. I couldn't have wished for a better special birthday celebration for my husband, it was absolutely perfect. We will definitely return and recommend to others.

Externally the cottage looks really lovely with a hot tub on site too which was really lovely. Internally the living/kitchen area very spacious, modern and well equipped. Main bedroom reasonable size as we had a cotbed too and still spacious. I would say this cottage is lacking in storage space for coats, boots and may be a small dining table as only a breakfast bar so we brought our own for Christmas dinner which wasn’t a problem at all but might be nice to have a fold up one supplied. Main bathroom very modern but quite small when you have a big family. Second bedroom quite small and again not enough storage when you have children. Maybe a good idea to place a small wardrobe in main bedroom for extra storage. The owners were really lovely and very accommodating even supplying extra crockery etc for Christmas Day which we very much appreciated. The site is a working progress as building works are taking place next door to build further cottages so not sure it would be as peaceful as we found it outside of the Christmas period. Saying that you could see the works as all fenced off and no through traffic due to Christmas.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your Christmas break at Sunflower Cottage. We are delighted you found the cottage modern, well equipped and spacious. We designed the cottage so that we could fit a cot into the main bedroom and still have plenty of room so we are happy that worked well for you. The fold up table as an addition for Christmas day is a great idea and we will definitely be adding for the coming Christmas if required. The wardrobes and dresser in each bedroom we have never had any negative feedback regarding, in fact we have had the opposite with guests surprised at the level of wardrobe space provided. However, like all feedback, we will take on board and review what’s possible. We go to great effort in hiding any future development work and we thank you for your kind comments in noticing the extent we go to. We have a strict policy that no building work can happen whilst guests stay so you can be reassured that your stay will always be peaceful and uninterrupted. As you note, the development is well out of sight which is important to us and our guests. Again we would like to thank you for your feedback as this will only allow us to improve the experience we provide our guests in our peaceful modern cottage.

Already so excited to book another weekend at Sunflower Cottage next year, had to best time and really wouldn’t have changed anything about the cottage, from the price to the Bluetooth sound system every little detail was just perfect.
