For the more active, there’s surfing at Bigbury or visit Haldon Forest, with its cycle and nature trails and Go Ape! For the children, Torbay is easily reached, with Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts.
The wild beauty of Dartmoor is 20 minutes away with its abundance of wildlife and dramatic landscapes. Numerous National Trust properties are close by including Agatha Christie’s Greenway. Steam trains travel from Kingswear to Paignton and Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Visit historic Dartmouth with bustling boat harbour, castle, contemporary art galleries and boutiques. Salcombe with its beaches, sailing and watersports is also easily accessible, as well as Blackpool Sands, Slapton and picturesque Dittisham with its annual crab catching competition. Slightly further afield, East Cornwall and the Eden Project are within an hour’s drive, and the East Devon coast is easily accessible with its unique fishing port at Beer and beaches at Sidmouth and Branscombe. The cottage was fine for our needs and we loved having access to the swimming pool. It was very clean if in need of a little re-decoration . We would have liked to have found a few logs for the wood burner on arrival plus some tea, coffee & sugar in the storage canisters.

We had a great week at Rook Cottage and hope to visit again in the future. The cottage is spacious and homely and the whole complex is kept very nicely with plenty of parking. It was wonderfully quiet and relaxing. Great location for access to both the coast and Dartmoor.

Good location, but property badly in need of basic maintenance and updating

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for the feedback. I am saddened that you did not raise your concerns at the time, thereby giving us the opportunity to rectify them or discuss them with you during your stay. We always act immediately with any guest concerns. As part of our ongoing continual maintenance programme, we have fitted a new shower and a fridge/freezer and washing machine have been installed this year. All other visitors leave good reviews for what is a very reasonably priced cottage with an indoor pool in beautiful countryside.

Great location and facilities. We stayed with our 18month old. The swimming pool was brilliant, we used it daily. Would definitely stay again

Lovely cottage in an idyllic setting. Roads very narrow and village over 2 miles away. Very well kept and clean.

Excellent place to stay, if breakfast was rated 1 to 5 stars this would be 6 STARS, a really good quality English breakfast.

Lovely little cottage down country lanes in Devon, swimming pool a plus but wish opening times started earlier and finished later (currently 9am-8pm) would have been better if we could get in from 7am and swim up to 9 or 10pm to fit around our schedules a little better. Only things were no hand soap and limited toilet roll so had to purchase these, also there was a dishwasher but no tablets provided. Kitchen has a great range of utensils/equipment available but no chopping board could be found anywhere! Would have brought these items if we had known to supply our own. Log burner great but again own logs are to be brought with or purchased to replenish what was already there. Central heating was great though so didn't need to light log burner, although heater in the bedroom was a little temperamental the first day but seemed to work ok after that. Overall a lovely place to stay, spacious and quiet, would stay again for sure!
