Imposing detached farmhouse, ideal for larger groups of family or friends, with open fire, wood floors and games room.

Set amidst peaceful countryside, this imposing detached farmhouse stands adjacent to the original farm buildings and overlooks the owner’s working arable farm, where seasonal operations provide a colourful reminder of the passage of the seasons. Rascal Wood provides holiday accommodation which is spacious, contemporary, light and airy, perfect for special celebrations, groups of friends or a family get-together. Surrounded by lawned gardens with seating areas and patio for alfresco dining, along with an eco-friendly underfloor heating system and open fire, this is an ideal house at any time of year. The village of Holme-on-Spalding Moor offers a convenient range of shops, pubs, restaurants and bakery. The area around the village is a maze of country lanes, perfect for walking and cycling. Being at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, this is a relatively undiscovered area which inspired the paintings of David Hockney. There are numerous attractions to visit including The Deep, a spectacular aquarium in Hull, and the Jorvik Centre and magnificent Minster in York. The historic market town of Beverley is just a 20 minute drive and the coastal resorts of Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough along with the North Yorkshire Moors are all easily accessible. Golf, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding are available locally and the owner is happy to share his extensive local knowledge, giving advice on walks, cycle routes and nature reserve locations. We have a lovely week over New Year with the whole family (3 generations including 6 children age 3-8). Rascal wood is spacious and well equipped for a large family group. In general the quality and of the furnishings and equipment was very good (but also practical with small children). If I had any quibbles, a couple of the mattresses are ready to be replaced and the kitchen could do with extra chopping boards. Overall I would recommend Rascal Wood especially for families.

We had a lovely weekend here for mum's 70th 8 adults and 6 children. We enjoyed walks and the space within the house to play (sardines was very popular) cook and eat all together. Thankyou

We have stayed in several large houses for family reunions and Rascal Wood was the best by far. We received a friendly welcome from the owner and the house brochure is very helpful with local walks etc.. There was plenty of room for everyone and the accommodation was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. One of the best features, for us, was the brilliant kitchen - plenty of crockey and cutlery, pots and pans, fridge space and cookers. So many places seem to assume that you don't want to cook from scratch for a dozen people but at Rascal Wood you will find everything that you need. The bedrooms are all very adequately sized and several have room for a travel cot. Anyone wishing to use the travel cot supplied at the house might note that it is quite a small one. The only suggestion we could make is for a larger or clearer sign, perhaps just a white post, for the turning to the house - it is difficult to spot in the dark and one of our party struggled to find it.

The house was very attractive, a good size, and very well equipped. It had a very spacious kitchen that covered all our needs. The small children in our party particularly liked playing games in the garden and they thought the glass floor panels on the top floor were very exciting. The house was set in a very peaceful location with views out over the fields. The owners were very keen to tell us about the walks you could take around the property. The main issue we had with the holiday was the distances we had to travel to any places of interest. This was hard with small children. It was a long drive to get to York, Hull or the seaside. While we thought the property was excellent and the location would suit a lot of people who want a quiet holiday, it was not quite right for us.
