Poirot Cottage is great for families or friends. It boasts a lovely conservatory where you can sit and simply admire the view.

"In rich rolling acres of natural grounds – just a riverside walk from the beach and sea . . ."

Just a mile or so from the beach and picturesque harbour at Lyme Regis, this attractive cluster of individually owned holiday cottages enjoys a peaceful setting in an area of exceptional natural beauty. Skilfully converted from a range of lovely old stone barns, they are surrounded by acres of pastures with abundant wildlife, including deer and badgers. Fitted and furnished to comfortable standards throughout, each holiday cottage is independently owned and has its own sunny patio at the front with peaceful and uninterrupted views over a picturesque pond and the countryside beyond. A lovely riverside walk leads to historic Lyme Regis, passing through wonderful countryside with no roads to mar the views. The rolling farmland scenery is easily enjoyed via the 28-mile network of local footpaths and bridleways, including the World Heritage Dorset Coastal Path (½ mile) and its spectacular Jurassic coast.
Accessible within 4 minutes by car or via a walk over fields and along the riverbank, Lyme Regis is one of England’s most memorable small towns. It is famous as the setting for both the story and film of The French Lieutenant’s Woman, with its harbour bright with boats, streets of elegant colour-washed buildings, lofty cliffs and a great sweep of sea. Inns, restaurants and a choice of shops can be found amongst the town’s attractive jumble of narrow streets, and it is a notable water sports centre. Motor boats can be hired, and there are fishing trips, a sailing school and club, and a wind-surfing school. There is also a sports complex at Axminster (4 miles) which offers swimming and other facilities. For nature lovers, the area has some of the most diverse scenery in the country: Lyme Bay sweeps round from the National Nature Reserve on the Dowlands Cliffs in an uninterrupted arc along the huge bank of shingle that is Chesil Beach, all the way to the limestone slab of the Isle of Portland. The 626-ft Golden Cap, a breathtaking viewpoint and part of a lovely 2,000-acre NT estate, is the highest point on England’s south coast, a World Heritage Site. An easy drive to Bridport, Honiton, Sidmouth, Exeter and Dorchester. For families there are many lovely beaches close at hand, and a theme park (Crealy Park) near Exeter. Lyme Regis golf course is within ½ mile and visitors are welcome to use the golf course, or to visit their bar and restaurant. Each cottage has a comprehensive information folder giving details of local pubs, restaurants, shops, walks, excursions and many interesting facts about Lyme Regis and finding fossils along the Jurassic coast. Shops 1 mile.

Five easy steps to entrance of this cottage, which accommodates a larger family. Open-plan living/dining room and fitted galley-style kitchen area with tiled floor. Conservatory with electric wood-burning stove and superb country views. Double bedroom with additional single bed (for +1). Shower room with double shower cubicle and toilet. First floor: Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower attachment and toilet. Single bedroom.

Compact accommodation for 6 we had good weather but would not have wanted to be there in the wet as nowhere to hang wet coats or boots. Conservatory has comfortable but over sized suite for the space. Single bed in single room suitable for 3 year old not for adult mattress needs replacing. Brilliant location very well equipped, great garden and shared amenity space .

We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is delightful and the owners have gone out of their way to provide home from home comfort. The standard of equipment and furnishings is very high - we could not think of anything that was lacking. The wifi connection was an added treat! The shared grounds were beautifully maintained and wildlife lives in abundance. It was lovely to see the variety of birds including very tame pheasants! All in all a great holiday in a lovely setting.

My family and I stayed at Poirot cottage to celebrate a special birthday. The cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed, all in working order and immaculately clean. The photos on-line don't do justice to the cottage - in reality it is more spacious and modern than the photos portray. The cottage was ideal for a multi-generation trip with two bathrooms and plenty of space for everyone. The cupboard of toys and games was an added bonus. The owners were very accommodating with our birthday arrangements and were easy to contact. I could imagine the cottage being difficult to get to in icy weather and (as you could gather from looking at a map) visitors would need their own transport or be prepared for a significant walk to get into Lyme Regis or even to a local shop. I would definitely recommend the cottage for anyone wanting some peace and quiet in the countryside.
