Just 2½ miles from Dunkeld, there is an abundance of history and heritage to explore.

These three properties are situated in a peaceful wooded area with walks right from the doorstep and numerous roe deer around, yet only 2½ miles from the village of Dunkeld with its shops, ancient fountain and cathedral. Osprey Cottage (ref 15885) has been converted to create a super holiday retreat with rugs on polished wooden floors upstairs in the living areas, and cosy bedrooms below. Heather Croft (ref 26213) is a detached bungalow nearby, cleverly designed by the owners with lots of windows to maximize views of the surrounding countryside. The But ‘n’ Ben (ref 28139) is a charming converted barn for two. An ideal choice whatever the weather. Next door to Dunkeld is Birnam, home of the Beatrix Potter exhibition and where there are riverside walks along the Tay. An 18-hole golf course is 1½ miles away beside the Loch of Lowes Wildlife Reserve. There are walks and cycle tracks in the bordering forest. Fishing locally. Shops and pubs 2½ miles.

Ground floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft), 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. First floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. Bathroom with toilet. Wooden floors throughout first floor.

Our second stay at Osprey cottage and would definitely return and recommend to others. It is very peaceful, off the beaten track and yet very accessible to Dunkeld and surrounding areas of interest. The cottage is light, airy and very clean. The owners are friendly and nearby for assistance if required but not at all intrusive.

The cottage is located a couple of miles from Dunkeld which is a beautiful village with restaurants, shop, pubs and coffee shops with the River Tay running through it. Nearby (half mile) is Loch of Lowes with a Nature Reserve with Osprey and Beavers. In fact, Beavers are literally at the end of the cottage drive! The surrounding countryside is stunning, lush green countryside and forests. Behind the cottage are fields with deer, red squirrels and diverse bird life. Beyond these fields leads up to Glens and moorland Lochs (Loch Ordie and others). An OS Map is money well spent for exploring these with this area being fantastic for walking but also accessible by Mountain Bike. You get a real feel of isolation and heading over to Loch Ordie early morning is amazing, however you'd be unlikely to bump into anyone any other time of day. The natural beauty is gobsmacking! Other places nearby that are great to visit are Pitlochary, Perth, Kenmore... Taking the West Highland Line train from Crainlarich to Mallaig on a clear day, although a bit of a drive to get there and then 3 hours each way on the train is well worth it! We did it with two teenagers and a dog with no complaints! If you appreciate the outdoors, natural beauty, wildlife and bird life and exploring on foot or bike and feeling like you're away from all of life's pressures you'll love this place. The accommodation is lovely and comfortable.

Lovely location, great to see the wildlife on your doorstep. Not in our terms far to get to local shops. The owners were very helpful and friendly.

Unfortunately the private drive which is I think is about a mile long is covered in potholes. I don't think my car liked it too much and I always came home before dark because it is so bad. The private drive spoils an other wise lovely location in a nice house. We read the visitors book and people have been complaining about the drive for at least 3 years before.

This is a very comfortable house in a peaceful spot, 2 miles from Dunkeld. The house was lovely and warm [there is a supplement to pay in winter] and the owners, Heather and Leslie, were welcoming and helpful. We liked the 'upside-down' room arrangement making the most of the views. There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs - very handy. There was no problem taking our dog and plenty of walks right from the door. We loved the doorstep wildlife - woodpeckers, redwings, partridges, red squirrels, fallow deer etc and a beaver along the track.

We thoroughly enjoyed two weeks staying at the cottage. It is a great base to explore Perthshire yet is also a peaceful retreat should one wish. The hosts couldnt have been friendlier. They met any requests we had discreetly, eg. A barbecue appeared outside shortly after we mentioned it . The kids loved it when they were asked if tgey wanted to go search for freshly laid eggs which they they could take home to eat. The wildlife we saw from the cottage was like being at a nature park, e.g. red squirrels, owls, bats, fallow deer, horses, phesants etc. We ate mainly at the cottage as being vegetarian the choice locally was limited. The kitchen had ample cooking equoptment to cook and bake. We slept well. We went on walks in the forest beside the property. It inspired thoughts of moving there! We ate outdoors most evenings as the weather was fine and warm. No midge bits either. All round super place to pause from the bustle of life.
