Lovely cottage, nice and warm, parking sometimes a problem if other residents have parked in the few residents bay that were available, good to have a parking permit available. Could do with a few more shelves and hooks (coats) . Very nice shower good water heat and pressure. Using bathroom sink is a pain in the neck, tall people have to lean to the left, similar problem with toilet. In saying this it did not cause any problems, a nice well converted cottage. Lovely large bedroom and great sized bed. Overall VERY GOOD, would recommend this cottage.

A super base for exploring bakewell and beyond. A cosy and comfortable cottage finished to a very high standard. Parking is a little tight if you have a larger car but we did always manage to find a space.

Lovely, cosy cottage, very close to town centre, a good base for the Peak District. Very clean and lovely decor.

Beautiful cozy and warm cottage, Ideally located for walking, shopping in the lovely town of Bakewell, and only a few minutes drive from Chatsworth House. The cottage has all the essential items in the kitchen, and the oven etc were all very clean and quite new. The bed is very comfortable and large, the bathroom has a lovely large shower, and as pointed out by several previous guests, has a steep sloping ceiling. However, we found this to be a fun quirk, yes you need to be aware, but after bumping your head a couple of times, you remember. Also the stairs are quite steep, but if these are features you don't like, it's probably best not to stay in an old cottage. The supplied parking permit was much appreciated, although parking in the road behind the cottage was a bit challenging. However it's only 3 minutes walk into town. We needed to contact Lucy the owner while we were there, and she responded to our text, with a return call after just a few minutes. We really hope that we will be able to return to Mill Race Cottage again soon, and for a longer visit.

Cosy small beautifully furnished cottage. Shower was excellent and powerful. Yes cottage is on main road and we are not used to traffic where we live but did not find it a problem - ear plugs work wonders and we both slept really well. Walked along main road into town but there is an even quicker way along the side of the mill stream. We had a problem with TV first night and were desperate to watch Masterchef Final later but, following a phone call to the owner, Lucy, she came straight away and sorted it out. Only 3 teaspoons though and that is worst thing I can say about the cottage!

Good base to travel from to see area and attractions. Slightly short in cooking equipment ie. Bowls for mixing, measuring cups. But otherwise well stocked.

Really lovely cottage in a good location for walking into the centre of Bakewell but, as it's on the A6, it can be a bit noisy. Facilities are great but the bathroom ceiling is low and sloping - beware if you're tall!

Ideally located for exploring the local area but the decor and facilities in the cottage are "Style over Substance". This is the first cottage (in over 30 years) we have rented that does not have a proper "Welcome Pack" for guests that gives essential information on local doctors, dentists, hospitals, recycling, what to do with rubbish and instructions on how to operate the domestic appliances, TV etc. The steeply sloped ceiling in the bathroom means that head height is severly restricted. I am barely 6 ft tall but had to duck as I stepped from the shower and was bent nearly double to clean my teeth at the sink. My wife is only about 5 ft 4 inbut she bumped her head on the ceiling several times including one occasion that drew blood. There isn't even a toilet brush provided in the bathroom. The freezer needs to be properly defrosted and old food in it disposed of. There are no facilities, even a small clothes airer, for drying wet washing assuming you can work out how to get the correct wash cycle on the machine. The property is situated right on the main A6 on a corner that is the entrance to quite a busy industrial estate. Traffic noise can be very intrusive particularly in the mornings.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Sorry the cottage didn't meet up to your expectations I do agree with you on the welcome pack. I am half way through putting a folder together with useful information however there is information on what's around Bakewell in the cottage. I have never had any problems with people using the equipment before as I have made sure it was simple and straightforward to use. You should have contacted me if there was a problem using the appliances I am always willing to guide and help my guest in any situation. Also again if you have contacted me regarding a clothes rail I could have brought one to you there is no storage in the cottage to store this. Regarding the ceiling unfortunately it's the character of the cottage that can't be changed, nobody has ever made this an issue if anything people like the quaintness of the cottage. The cottage is on the corner of the A6 but this is stated in the description on the website. Once again I haven't had complaints of this being an issue. Thank you for your comment I have taken note and will be sorting my welcome pack out as soon as possible.
