Description

Within easy reach of Cardiff with its impressive castle right in the city centre, or take picturesque walks on the Gower Peninsula.

Peacefully set in 2 acres of lawned gardens, these four beautifully furnished and extremely well-equipped holiday cottages enjoy excellent walks straight from the back door. Sunny Croft (ref JVZ) and Penny Croft (ref JSM) adjoin one another and boast superb views from their elevated position, whilst Meadow Croft (ref OMY) is attached to the owner’s 17th-century home and Abbots Croft (ref OL8). Each cottage has a plasma TV, a mini CD player and its own terrace with beautiful views.
This is an area with lots of character, with hills that beckon the walker. For cyclists, the Afan Argoed Forestry Park, rated in the top ten in the world for mountain bike rides, is within easy reach. Spectacular drives over the inter-valley roads give amazing views, while the rich, rolling land of the Vale of Glamorgan offers many castles, interesting churches and manor houses to explore. The nearest sandy beaches are 12 miles, and the Gower Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty famous for its beaches, magnificent coastal scenery and rich birdlife, is easily accessible.
Caerphilly is easily accessible and is famous for its magnificent castle and the crumbly white cheese which is widely available throughout the town. The capital, Cardiff, is well worth the visit and is an easy and compact city to navigate, with the River Taff flowing through the heart of the city. The Millennium Stadium sits happily alongside much older buildings including the castle which gives the city a vibrant and cosmoplitan feel to it. Tennis, riding, fishing and golf nearby. Multi-screen cinema, restaurants and shopping complex 3 miles. Village shop/P.O. 2 miles, pub serving home-cooked food (prebooking advisable), 100 yards.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was perfect for our party being grandparents (we had the lovely large bedroom upstairs) and two further bedrooms downstairs for parents and small child, both with our own bathrooms. The cottage is at the end of the road so zero traffic and perfect quiet. It is advertised as being 'opposite the pub' but Meadow Croft is at the very end of the lane and you would not hear the pub at all, actually it is really a restaurant and was never noisy. It is up in the hills so we had a sweeping views across the valley. The owners have placed several sitting and eating areas outside for people to enjoy the views and you can walk anywhere you like. Several mornings I and grandson were out walking in the sheep fields before 7 a.m.! just glorious. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable, plenty of cushions and two footstools, tissues too. Although it is advertised as disabled access on first floor (there is a ramp) you would be imprisoned in the bedroom unable to access the living area. You must be able to do stairs to stay here. You must also have your own transport - there is no near public transport. The location is very good for lots of different activities. Equal distances to the beach, the Brecon Beacons, caves, monkey farm, steam trains, shopping and waterfalls. Very welcoming owners.

Having read the previous reviews for this property, we had high expectations - we were disappointed. Initial impressions were good, but as we spent more time at the property we quickly began to see it needed some love and attention. There are holes in the carpet, curtains tieback hooks hanging from the wall, kick-boards and kitchen drawers that need attention and fascias in the kitchen hanging loose. The property was basically clean but would benefit from a deep clean - there were lots of cobwebs heavy in dust, the shower tiles were grimy from soap scum and the carpets heavily stained in places. Having said that, the beds were comfy, the property nice and warm and well equipped and the view from the bedroom was stunning, even on damp misty days.

Comfortable, spacious well equipped cottage with a great location and wonderful views. Combined with friendly, helpful owners, a cosy pub serving good food and nice walks all on the doorstep, it's perfect for both family holidays and romantic getaways.
