Description

The Grain Store is a brilliant family property as it boasts fantastic shared facilities including children’s play area and games room.

Marshwood Manor offers excellent accommodation and facilities in a tranquil rural setting, surrounded by Dorset’s loveliest countryside, and only 5 miles from the unspoilt beaches and golden sandstone cliffs of the coastline. The estate’s 10-acres of lawn, garden, pasture and woodland offer plenty of room for adults to stroll and children to play.

The properties have been carefully formed from a fine original range of buildings next to the manor house and may be booked together to accommodate larger groups holidaying together (property refs DEY, DFA, DEX, DUS and DWS). Previously filmed for BBC television, all retain character and charm, whilst offering comfortable holiday accommodation fitted to a high standard throughout. Each has its own garden or courtyard with furniture, and all enjoy shared use of the extensive gardens and grounds. There is a large games barn with pool table and table tennis, and a children’s play area with swings and slide. Approached along a private drive and set well back from the road, the cottages are perfectly positioned for enjoying this delightful corner of Dorset.

There are a variety of beautiful beaches, both sand and pebble, within a five to ten mile radius, including those at Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seatown, Eype, West Bay and Burton Bradstock. Fossil-rich cliffs define this dramatic stretch of coastline, which encompasses the 2,000-acre National Trust estate of Golden Cap. This is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and superb walking country, both on the rolling chalk hills overlooking fertile inland valleys and on the coastal footpaths offering spectacular clifftop views. It is also an area full of romance and history, with three ancient hill forts and the house and gardens of Forde Abbey all nearby.

A range of attractions is on offer in nearby country towns. Lyme Regis is a pretty seaside resort, its elegant colour-washed buildings and promenade lining a handsome harbour. Motor boats can be hired and there are fishing trips, a sailing school and a windsurfing school. Bridport is a thriving market town, featured on TV’s River Cottage, the Port Bredy of Hardy’s novels, offering a good choice of shops, inns, restaurants, an arts centre and a sports centre with indoor pool. The coastline is excellent for sea fishing and inland waters offer good coarse fishing. Golfers will find courses at Lyme Regis and West Bay and there is also horse riding nearby within 5 miles. Caterers are available locally. The local shop at Marshwood and two charming thatched country pubs are within a short drive. Shops 2 miles.

Nice location, owners are lovely. Suits people with dogs, children like going out and about. Cottages are abit dated in some ways, heating is storage heaters, hard to control but if you were staying through the summer you probably wouldnt notice

My husband and I took our three grandsons to the Granary. As it was a winter holiday we wanted something like a games room so that they could 'let off steam' if we had some bad weather. The games room at The Granary was excellent. We ALL thoroughly enjoyed our stay and returned home refreshed. We would have no hesitation in making a return visit.

The cottage was in a beautiful location, but lacked a fully working shower (low pressure, no water/ drips) tap shower had two settings, scorching or freezing. The spiders had been very busy with large/ multiple cobwebs on the stairs, in the lounge and under shelf in kitchen. The table mats/ coasters were marked and needed wiping. On the second day we found a list in the cupboard in the kitchen stating that we should have had some milk (as we were miles from a shop and arrived in the evening) this would have saved us a journey back out. We also should have had three dishwasher tablets again this would have saved us washing up. The matches were hidden (for safety) so well that we had to buy some more. We had only a couple of logs and no kindling for the wood burner. ( we took our own, most people wouldn't have). There was no working outside light, this made it difficult to navigate the small step safely. Our greatest concern and a legal requirement was the pat testing had expired in 2013 according stickers on some appliances, others had no stickers and were not new. I am allergic to feathers and there was only one non-feather pillow in the three rooms. The window in twin room did not shut which was potentially a risk to children. ( Made it draughty too.) The back door did not shut properly either. The visitors book went back for 10 years, this stated numerous times about the shower not working. I spoke with the owner, she said that they had had several new showers over the last few years. The shower did not look like a new one, it was off white and an old style. We own a holiday let ourselves in Minehead. I suggested that the owners stayed in the house to know the issues themselves. If the issues were sorted out we would love to return as it was an amazing place and so close to Dorset's famous landmarks.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your comments which have been taken on board. A new shower has been installed and you are quite correct in that there should have been milk, dishwasher tabs and logs for the burner - we apologise for the oversight. We do encourage guests to come to us with any questions or problems so that we may be able to rectify the situation as swiftly as possible.

Cottage located in quiet countryside with good access to Jurassic coast and local amenities. It was comfortable with good space. The play area and games room were a great facility for children as well as the friendly resident dogs and cat. There was just one bathroom which needed updating and heating was via storage heaters that could get very hot to the touch so one to watch with children. We had a pleasant comfortable stay.

The actual place of Marshwood Manor was in a beautiful location all be it in the middle of know where. We had no mobile phone signal which we didnt expect and the wifi was weak at best and when trying to book online activities was awkward. ordering online food shop was a must as thenearest town only has a small Lidl.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your comments. We have recently opened our own small convenience store on the drive and the Wi-Fi has finally been upgraded to superfast broadband. After a booking is confirmed, guests are also able to download our information folder which lists, with maps, local supermarkets in the neighbouring towns. This may be handy when journeying to us at the start of a holiday.

We have just had a brilliant week staying at The Grain Store. Owners were very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The location was beautiful and we had some lovely trips to the local area. Information in the cottage was very useful. Play area and games room were great for the children, would definitely recommend. I have only given a 9 for Comfort and Equipment as the shower is not great, everything else was excellent.

Lovely Cottage, clean and comfortable, away from it all, ideal for a truly relaxing holiday. Well equipped so no additional work over home and the owners were charming and their dogs adorable and so well behaved. Telephone reception and wi-fi a bit iffy but who really needs them on holiday. We got phone reception in the kitchen and back garden when we needed it.

We had bad weather which spoilt it somewhat but it is a lovely place in a great location. Shower was a dribble and the walls were thin so neighbours were quite apparent but otherwise fab place

Simply stunning part of the UK. Probably the best. The only negative about the cottage was the internet speed but that's due to BT. Lyme Regis is lovely and the surrounding villages magical.
