Great location, right on the Broads. If boating is your thing, then look no further. Large apartment over three floors, so a bit of climbing but with bedrooms on the ground floor and second floor, there is somewhere for everyone. Large kitchen/diner. Large L-shaped sitting room. Plus, at different times of the year, a free day launch to explore the surrounding river. All clean and tidy on arrival. Couple of niggly faults but nothing to spoil our enjoyment. Would have liked to stay even longer. It served its purpose as a base for Christmas at Thursford but would return in the Spring or Summer to take full advantage of the River Bure and Broads.

I wouldn't recommend going out of season because if you have a problem then you have to deal with it yourself. The out of hours telephone was turned off and when this was queried we were told "well this is Norfolk, you can't always get a signal". We had a very distressing incident and while not an serious emergency it was very upsetting for those involved. One of our guests was trapped in a room for over an hour and a half. We were forced to call a locksmith to rescue the trapped resident - and it was only after seeing my son's plea for help on Twitter, that someone from their marketing team came to apologise and offer assistance. The person in charge said it was a freak incident and even although it was on his premises he would not accept it was his responsibility. There were also comments about faulty locks in the visitors book so I think it was very much his responsibility. He was very defensive and completely uninterested in the wellbeing of the trapped guest. The manager refused to offer compensation and instead we were offered a 20% discount on a future holiday. We declined, as we shan't be going back. For health and safety reasons I could not possibly recommend this apartment.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Firstly we are so very sorry that this happened to the customers whilst in one of our properties. We do have somebody on call 24 hours. However, we are very much subject to signal strengths around Norfolk and there are certain areas where it is weaker than others and as soon as they came into an area with signal they did pick up the message and responded straight away. However, by fluke our Marketing Manager saw the twitter comment and reacted asap but she does live outside the area and had to get over which took a while for her to get there. We did pay for the emergency locksmith and apologised profusely unfortunately as in all properties, holiday or home, things do happen. We would also comment that the visitors book did have a comment about a faulty lock, but this was on the patio door, which was repaired as soon as it was reported. I have worked for Barnes Brinkcraft for 14 years and there has never been an incident of this sort during my time here. We did offer 20% discount on a future holiday as by way of a sincere apology and can certainly completely sympathise with the customers. All other comments in the visitors book are very complimentary.

The sofa and chairs are very uncomfortable so not good for a November break. The cottage is extremely clean. It is well equipped but would have struggled to seat every one for dinner if we had 9 people.

The accommodation was clean and tidy upon our arrival and the key left in the keysafe as we were arriving late. Communication from the owners prior to the holiday was excellent and all queries were answered very swiftly. We were a party of 9 adults for a birthday getaway and there was enough room for us all and the added bonus of a boat was great. The bottle of bubbly was a lovely touch and quickly enjoyed by the girls! The Kings Head down the road offers a good selection of beers and pub food and the Swan Inn at Horning is well worth a visit on the boat for a warm welcome. Although these rentals are well located for boat hire, they are quite literally located in a boatyard and with little outdoor space other than a balcony, its hard to see beyond this. Ideal if you are staying for a few days as a stop off point.
